Latest in today's Telegraph - Council have announced sacks will be free, 6 per person per visit from Libraries etc as now. Initially 200,000, to see how it goes.

Guess which muggins bought 3 green sacks a few weeks ago?! Still I'm glad they're doing it and even more pleased to hear they're thinking about more kerbside collections. About time too!

I'm sure you know its not just for the bags? ;) The £1 is really for the collection service - who else will take away garden rubbish (even a small amount) for a quid?
The people who already collect our coucncil tax to do just that?

Is this another "you have to recycle but it'll cost you and you have no choice" situations?

We have a green bin supplied to us that gets emptied twice a month by the refuse people!

Wasnt a green bin a limited service, tested in parts of S8 and S2 (Meersbrook and Heeley)?

Green bags are now free (for the time being)

I'll ask the Mods to update the title.

I think that's a wrong assumption.

I'm fairly sure that it goes to the incinerator.

The linked telegraph article states:

Around 45,000 homes in Sheffield already have green bin collections for their garden rubbish, and this scheme is aimed at other parts of the city, with the waste taken to local composting centres.

Doesn't mention anything about the green bag waste!

I've got to say I never throw things into a farmers field, I never would - why would you do such a thing.

What about the local tip? You don't have to pay for that.

My mate went to the local tip. It ended up costing him £50. He got a big lump of metal stuck in his tyre that buggered it up.
