Green bin bags - Now Free!

The downside is - they have a

black bin (non recyclable),

brown bin (garden rubbish),

green bag (paper),

red box (plastics) and

blue box (glass, aluminium and other tins).

 

They do that here, you should see the rows of wheelie bins outside peoples houses.

From the council's website it looks like they are still a pound each, so this weekends weeding is going in the black bin.

Three quid....that is extortion!!!!

 

I live in maisonettes and we are not forced to recycle - after all where in the house would you put all these different bins!!! There is a grassy area nearby where the council COULD put recycling bins but it doesn't so everything goes into a black bin or down the chute.

 

Last week when I was in Margate my son has a new bin in his kitchen...it contains a blue bag which is for recycling...for paper, tin cans etc so for a whole week I was washing and sorting stuff.....

 

I hope the council here don't ask us to do this too....I haven't even enough room in MY kitchen for my appliances let alone another bin with a blue bag in it

So is it safe to presume that green bins (on trial) in parts of South Sheffield are not being rolled out to the rest of Sheffield then?

Tsk, tsk, that's not allowed! This is from the Veolia website:

 

"Your black wheeled bin is for general household waste. Please do not put any of the following items in your black bin.

• garden waste

• bricks

• soil

• tiles

• rubble

• hot ashes"

 

I can recall from when the last lot (damned if I can remember their name, now) had the contract, you could put some garden waste in the black bin (can't remember the exact wording).

 

So now they expect me to put out a barely half-full black bin, whilst shelling out for green bins for the garden waste! Guess where my garden waste goes?

I think it is inexpensive when you think that they collect the bags as well. They are always collected within a few days and with the price of fuel these days by the time you have driven to the dump it is cheaper for the Veolia to collect it.

 

Get a composting bin if paying £1 is too much. I think if you go on the council website you can get them for about £10.

Whatever kind of rubbish it is, if it`s sealed in a black bin bag and put in the bin who is to know? I have never seen the bin men ripping open bin bags to see what is inside.

I have a composting bin jaime, and it gets good use. I also have a reasonably large garden so I have a compost heap too. I also shred my clippings where possible so my garden waste output is pretty minimal.

 

However, some things like weeds from freshly dug areas (for my new ever so eco-friendly veg patch) don't really want to go on the compost because of the seeds.

 

So, green bags are perfect solution... but not at a pound a go. My black bin will be full again this week.

Took 2 black bin liners full of clean washed plastics to tip and could no longer find the relevent container to put them in. When i enquired where it was, i was told to ' just tip it in there' and pointed to the general waste section! So glad i made the effort of wasting water and fuel! . . Guess where my plastics go now!
