Green bin bags - Now Free!

This is the same council that encourage fly-tipping by charging you money to dispose of bulk waste, when tossing it over the wall into a farmer's field is free.

I've got to say I never throw things into a farmers field, I never would - why would you do such a thing.

What about the local tip? You don't have to pay for that.

The landfill tax alone on tipping 1 ton of green waste is £28 (soon to be £32). The council has to pay that.

'green' garden waste gets composted, it shouldnt go near a landfill.

Program on Radio 4 yesterday, most green is not composted due to lack of facilities, it's tipped still.

Green is the most expensive to tip, it's unstable, when it rots it produces methane.

so i should set up a business in competition with the council then?

they're obviously overcharging because they cant do their job properly (as usual, for scc)

Simple stop thinking GREEN. It’s just another stealth tax

Use normal bags, and take the rubbish to the tip. It all ends up in the Sheffield waist incinerator any way! You don’t really think they recycle this stuff

I complained to the Council when the price went up and the reply I got was

" I can understand your frustration at having to pay more for your sacks. The Green Sack price has not increased (though Veolia are entitled to increase the cost annually by the rate of inflation) since their contract with us started in 2001- at £1.50 for 3. Veolia have further subsidised the service for the past three years by offering a Buy One Get One Free (BOGOF) promotion (i.e. 6 sacks for £1.50). Veolia have decided not continue to offer this subsidy to this service and also increase the price to the current rate permissible in the contract this year. We have expressed our disappointment with Veolia that they have chosen to do this- both the price increase and end of BOGOF offer at the same time, but they are quite within their rights to do so."

Last time I used the green bags I phoned them up, gave my address and the bags where collected from outside the front door a few days later.

It is expensive, if you have a large garden and a lot of stuff to clear. You can only put so much in your compost bin, I predict many more annoying garden fires from people who simply can no longer afford to buy these bags.

We have had our "bring out your rubbish day" removed, apparently because we generate too much rubbish, tons of it were regularly collected from our area, which is very poor and people do not have cars to take it to the tip. One wonders where the council tax and rent money goes.

The council appears to be doing very little to encourage people to be environmentally friendly in their rubbish disposal
