fixit4u Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Hi all,I am wondering if anyone could help me. I am getting married in 8 weeks in Malta and have not yet got anything to wear. As I have got older and put on quite a bit of weight with age/medication, my confidence and self esteem has gone very low. I have been looking around for quite a long time now but felt as i am in my late 40's and around size 22 that bridal shops would have nothing to offer me but after looking around normal shops feel that anything i like does not have my size. I at last embarrassed myself and made an appointment in a bridal shop only to be told the largest size in at the minute was a size 16 but if i tried some dresses on i would get an idea. I am looking for a lightist material with getting married abroad, not bothered what colour but would like a wrap or something to cover my arms up. The first dress i tried on being 4 sizes too small, they got me stuck in it, and i had a panic attack. My daughter ended up trying dresses on for me and i chose 2. I am supposed to be going back Saturday to order one of them but now am wondering how do i know if they will suit me? If when they have ordered it me if it needs altering i then have to fork out another 100.00 to have it adjusted. This is a lot of money for me and why should i pay to have it altered if they had my size in, in the first place i would surely know if it fitted? Does anyone know anywhere where they make dresses in 8 weeks and in a size 22. I am running out of hope and time. Thanks for any advice.
KATIEB_23 Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Hi don't worry, you will find something that you look fabulous in! I just did a quick google search and found this: http://www.plussizebridal.com/ They do size 16-32 wedding gowns and say they dispach within 72hrs. It's in America but should still arrive in plenty of time. The dresses I saw were about $300 (£150) Hope this helps xx edit: I've just had a look through and 'style 1009' looks perfect for you - light floaty chiffon halterneck
looby lou Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 have a look at la bella brides site, they specialise in plus size gowns and they are very helpful
Classic Rock Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Ebay!!! I've just ordered a dress on ebay, one size smaller than I thought I am with the plan to slim down into it and it has come and is too big, so I need the smaller size. Fortunately the store accept returns and will do exchanges! This way you can try on in the comfort of your own home and get a dress at the fraction of the price of bridal stores - and in this way you don't need to deal with shop assistants who think they know it all and treat you as an alien cos you aren't a stick insect - you can maintain some dignity and privacy. As long as you don't mind paying return postage and for them to send it back to you, it's an option. There are plenty of sizes on ebay. Take a look.
fixit4u Posted April 1, 2008 Author Posted April 1, 2008 Thanks for advice given. I have today been to La Bella Brides where I have spent over 2 hours trying on lots and lots of wedding dresses that actually fit - and yes I have ordered my dream dress and hopefully it is expected well within my time limit. I would very much like to thank Kathy and her young assistant she had with her today for all their help and for putting up with me. It was much appreciated.
