helenasq Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Just been going on the rainrecue site and had a look at the dogs, fundraising things etc. I then found this on puppy farming, I knew it was bad but not this bad, everyone should be made to read this to put a stop to this heartless, cruel and inhumane money maker. (be aware, it really is a heart wrencher but does let you see the harsh reality and torturous life of some of these poor, poor dogs. http://www.rainrescue.co.uk/puppy-farms.htm I really am so moved by this article, can't stop thinking about these poor dogs now, something really does need to be done about it.
Moonbird Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Its all really horrible isn't it? such suffering all in the name of making money There are loads of ex brood bitches and stud dogs on the Many tears website
Rainrescue Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 You are right - it is horrible and the sad fact is that people will close their eyes to it. I am amazed how many people who are after a certain breed of dog - and if they can't find one locally - think they are doing the right thing travelling miles to a 'breeder' in wales. Then - the nice man will say - oh don't worry about coming to me - I am passing that way - i will meet you in a car park, or deliver it for you - isn't he nice. No - he just doesn't want you to see the state of the poor mums at home. Then others, don't care, and you see all you want - it breaks my heart to think of what we put animals through in the name of money. spread the word as far as you can - you must see the mum in a nice home, the people knowing lots about and caring for her, and being interested in the welfare of the breed and the puppies. Puppy farms will be licensed, probably will even have pedigrees, and can offer insurance packages - you just have to be vigilant and help stop these cruel outlaws. thank you for raising it.
Strix Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 it really is a minefield trying to make the right decisions when buying a pup - but too many people want them to be as accessible as the latest piece of bling if you're not asked to put your name down and WAIT for your pup to be born, think twice about the 'breeder' you've spoken to! Brude did come from a kennel environment, but his breeder breeds to a waiting list, refused to sell us a pup whilst I was working, had a jack russell in her beagle kennels when we first visited (the owner was in hospital but boarding fees had ceased being paid weeks before), and she provides kennelling for Beagle Welfare so had a puppy farmed 18 month old dog in her kennels when I last spoke to her similarly you may find that home bred pups are bred from two dogs of the same breed put together indiscriminately (and sometimes too closely related) Make sure you gather as much information as you possibly can before making your choice as to who to hand your hard earned cash over to
