The_Shark Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 sat on the tram this morning and next to me was a young man with a headset on playing Amy Winehouse, it wasn't too loud but you could hear it slightly, enough to make out and sing along to it. it wasn't really bugging anyone...bar this one young woman who turned around tapped this guy on the shoulder and asked him to turn it don, he refused to do it. he wasn't being chav-like and playing directly over his lobile phone like the morons on buses and it wasn't bothering me or (as far as i could see) anyone else, so i am going to be rational and look at this from both sides. the woman the music behind me, (maybe) to me is sounding like a drill (or maybe i just find it irritating) so i tap the young man's shoulder and say "excuse me could you please turn it down a little?" the man turns away and says no, so now a little bit annoyed i will have to put up with the music for the length of the journey the man reading my bok and listening to Amy Winehouse on my MP3 player i feel a tap on my shoulder i turn and remove my headsrt to find a woman asking me to turn down my music, i refuse and carry on listening and reading for the rest of the trip. so to a point i agree with the man, when i have my music in my ears (and not playing it loudly over a mobile phone) is how i listen to down out the hustle and bustle of the world around me. But i also see it from the woman's point of view i guess sound like that behind your head can get a little annoying. so in conclusion what do you think? do you think he should have turned his music down? do you think she should have not mentioned it? do you think i should stop being so nosey?
SYorksDeano Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I'd have turned my music down as well, and a few times I have been asked to and not realised it has been that loud. What irrritates me is when these chavs get on the tramtrain/buses with their music blaring out of their phones thinking they are the big I am.
purple_frog Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Personally, I get so paranoid about whether or not my music is audible to others - yeah, I prefer to listen to my stuff loud and with bass emphasised, but that's no reason for me to inflict myself on others, who are simply going about their lives... So, yeah, if his music was bugging her, he should have turned it down. Simple as!
The_Shark Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 Personally, I get so paranoid about whether or not my music is audible to others ! i am like that too but never had anyone ask me to turn it down before so i think my level is ok.
..::Lear::.. Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 When people have asked me to turn it down I usually reply in a really loud voice. 'I'm sorry, I can't hear you, my music is really loud.' This usually gets big laughs from other travelers.
Thunzi Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 It would depend on how the woman asked, I would judge my response accordingly. Where I worked before I got free parking in town so used to drive in everyday. I've changed jobs and don't get that anymore so now use the bus. I’m no longer in my own little world in the car. I will openly admit to listening to my music very loudly as I'm annoyed constantly by screaming kids and the lower dregs of society who unfortunately for me use the same bus route. However I’ve got the noise cancellation earphones so no one other than me can hear it (as far as I’m aware). If it was bothering someone and they asked me to turn it down I would do that. If they were giving me a load of attitude though I’d respond in the same way. I can be a bit of a bad tempered bear in the morning anyway though
Tipex Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Just listening to amy whinehouse is enough to turn any music player down.
