epiphany Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 ...Upstairs neighbour is up and about until 1am, but then is up and about at 6:30am? I can't sleep when they're up and about basically. I would try earplugs, but I would sleep through my alarm. I would tell them to keep it down, but I hate telling people what to do in their own home and it's just living noises, even though they do feel the need to slam doors. I would be up and about for the same hours, but 5 hours sleep is not enough for me to be able to concentrate at work. Needless to say, I'll be moving as soon as I can. Surely this is a common problem...?
lubylou Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I used to have this problem when i lived on the 10th floor of some flats, there was an old guy living above me, he used to be up at 4.30 every morning put the radio on, and all you could here was the same tune playing and his footsteps walking back and forth. It drove me insane, in the end i went to knock on his door and ask him politely if he would keep the music down, but he never answered the bloody door, so i wrote him a polite letter, which seemed to work.
hamatik Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I'm a really light sleeper and have had to move a few times due to this problem. Earplugs are a good solution, and I'm pretty sure you'll still wake up to your alarm as you know the sound and it will still alert you.
spiritdivine Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 If you think you could approach this neighbour and mention it politely then do so but if they're not the approachable type then don't make things worse for yourself as they will probably slam the doors harder and more often!Have you thought about reporting it to the council(if it's council property).I have done this recently and was suprised how serious they take this kind of situation. They have been fantastic and actually ring me regularly to ask about the problem.I have'nt had the problem since and it has bee great!

epiphany Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 you don't live under me, do you? I was thinking the same Do either of you live in a really posh flat with arched windows? Do you occasionally hear heavy metal being played beneath you?
Burntlego Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I live in a posh flat and frequently hear Duffy being played on repeat below me!
epiphany Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 I live in a posh flat and frequently hear Duffy being played on repeat below me! Wah! Definitely not me!
cressida Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Perhaps in future councils should ask for references where possible, the only thing I do is put my radio on next to my bed so I can't hear them, if it goes on after midnight, put a cd on
