Stormy Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 It definitely was true, but I don't know if it still is. That's why many councils simply painted a white line on the side of a hellishly busy road and proclaimed that they'd built a cycle lane. Bizarre isnt it. You cant blame the councils though if they are being forced into silly actions such as this in order to get much needed funding
splodgeyAl Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 see post above, its is shared use so you can cycle anywhere on the path, there are blue highway signs to indicate this - no need to bump up, no need to go round the lamppost. Its an access road so hardly busy. oh yeah! sorry, don actually know the road and was going by the photos. didnt see you post 'til just now. cheers for the enlightenment
TESTPASS Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Bizarre isnt it. You cant blame the councils though if they are being forced into silly actions such as this in order to get much needed funding what do you mean we cant blaim them ? thats like saying we cant blame bush for going into iraq because he needed to secure oil.
Stormy Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 what do you mean we cant blaim them ? thats like saying we cant blame bush for going into iraq because he needed to secure oil. Its the idiots who come up with the rules without thinking of what they are actually starting who should be blamed. The councils are just trying to secure maximum funds from least expenditure. Thats fine by me since I contribute to their coffers and dont like seeing it go to waste.
quack Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 I use this road a lot commuting to work & it's great to see a cycle lane being built along it. I'd like to know more about where the missing bits are going to be - as other contributors are right, it stops and starts at the moment where in-between bits haven't been built. I don't tend to use it at the moment for this very reason - it's much more dangerous coming into the traffic on Penistone Road than staying in it all the way along. And that's my worry about the finished cycle lane - are the compromises necessary for the landowners & other road users going to make the cycle lane a bit crap? Lots of other cycle lanes in Sheffield are (lots of stop/start cycling, tight turns against kerbs, having to cross dual carriageways via pelican crossings to get back onto the carriageway - the previous cycle route along Penistone Road had exactly these problems). I'm sure there was consultation on the cycle lane at the planning stage, but I missed any signs that were up. Is it too late for regular commuters to have some say do you think? Well here's the worst bits anyway: Narrowing of lanes at KFC at Owlerton means lorries & buses nearly kill you there - daily; hazardous kerb on entrance to cycle path at bridge below the Bingo; absolute nightmare exit from cycle lane onto the road leading to Kelham - blind bend. Hope that's of interest to anyone at all - my journeys are filled with such banal but life-changing things!
Hepstall Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 There's more good ones here: http://www.warringtoncyclecampaign.co.uk/ Its funny isn't it, how the main page picture shows a girl riding on the road with NO helmet?
