andco Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Need to repair/reinstall Office programmes - owing to the kit I've got it uses an external DVD/CD Rom drive which doesnt seem to be working & makes a kind of worrying whirring sound - gets so far and then packs up. What was an impeccably clean & shiny laser surface on the CDRom now has some scratches. Does this mean the CD/DVD drive is knackered? :HELP: :HELP:
sixriver Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 From what you say, it unfortunately sounds like it is broken. you will need to buy another.

sixriver Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I wouldn't risk it in that drive again. If you try it in another drive there is a good chance it is still readable. If not then try something like this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=28595&C=Froogle&U=28595&T=Alias&MA=cd%20scratch%20cleaner Its not guaranteed to work but if you don't have any other copies of the C.D it won't hurt
andco Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 Thanks - much appreciated. Getting on to the insurers & my supplier/manfr et al. ASAP.
Ghozer Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Places like GameStation, and PlayTime can repair CD's and DVD's for like £2.50 per disk or sommat..
andco Posted March 27, 2008 Author Posted March 27, 2008 I popped in to the Uni to try and get some software probs sorted out and delighted to say that for whatever reason the darn contraption functions like any other normal machine, ie it seems to be working properly. Machines - like men - are extremely variable.
