Hi Guys, Here's a picture of Crabtree Lane Barnsley Rd, has anyone got a photo

of the house that use to be just inside of the gate.

As i remember the place it was private ground as with the fish pond.

Be great to look it up.

I used to work at jack Asher's when I left school in 1976. His wife ruby had a hairdressers on upwell St. When I left, old man asher gave me a reference on a bit of paper written in pencil! I've still got it. Going back a bit further to about 1970 can anyone remember a proper sweet shop at firvale lights called the creamery? It had a windmill outside.

As a new member to the forum I was shocked to read about the state that Page Hall has now become.I was born and bred on Idsworth road almost 60 years ago and have many fond memories of my childhood like playing football in the car park of the Firth Park WMC.I remember mcgregors shop but I remember it was run by a guy called Stan Cave.

I agree its really sad to see Page Hall these days; I was born 1944 at 97 Hinde House Lane which I left in 1968 when married. Mum & dad carried on living there until they died, dad 1987 mum 1993. Mum didn't like it in the last few years because it had changed so much .

My wife is from Millhouses area & that side of the city has changed little.

I remember the surgery - our doctor was Dr Pettigrew and later Dr Ridgeway. Also the two dentists nearby on Firth Park Road - Allen and McGee.

Yes the Pork Butchers I remember now as Friedrich's..

I forgot the bank as I never had £5 - ten bob maybe! :-P

Dr Pettigrew was our family doctor in the 50's then I remember Dr Maher took over. Don't remember a Ridgeway though.

Ah- we knew the Firvale Creamery as THE Dairy.. the owner called me Jenny wren when I went in to spend my pocket money or for my dads tobacco. Can't remember his name though- he always wore a brown warehouse coat- just like Arkwright!

Did anyone go in Tony's Cafe at Firvale?

I remember my mom took me in there for breakfast sometimes- usually scrambled egg on toast! When I got older Dad said I should never go there in the evenings because all the teddy boys hung out there with their flick knives and bicycle chains!!

Are we discussing Page Hall?

I'm sure that's where the Sunbeam picture house was.

I lived in Handsworth and only ventured there because I had made a date.

It was alien country to me but worth the trip.

I married ''my date'' and a lovely man he was . My love.

The Sunbeam was at Firvale next to the new Tesco- became a petrol station when they pulled it down. Sad cos it was a great cinema I lived across the road in one of four cottages which also got demolished a few years later-- even more sad!!!

I too had Dr Pettigrew & Dr Ridgeway. I have met with Dr Ridgeway on a number of occasions in recent years. The last time was at the centenary celebrations of St Oswalds Church, Bannerdale Rd in 2010 where he had been a member for many years & where my wife grew up.
