pigeon   11 #85 Posted September 9, 2010 Yep, next to Siddall's. Amazing to think there were three butcher's shops within a few yards of each other. We liked our meat!  Jack ashers ,kenningtons and what Ithink was George Krammers it was a nice area to live in the 70s early 80s... Frankie Rage   10 #86 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) Can anyone else remember the tobacconist at pagehall, more or less opposite Patnicks.Sold pipes lighters etc,i've got the name Scotts in my head not sure if it's right though going back to the sixties can recall my aunt working there.  I think it might have been Scott's. It was a bit up from Patnick's I thought but on the other side of the road opposite, as you say. I ought to know as my mum Madge worked there too behind the counter for a year or so! Was it next to the "supermarket" BUYWISE which I thought was on one side and on the other side was the pork butchers? I once volunteered to help clear the cellar out at Scott's (if it was Scott's!!!) when I was about 15, so that would gave been 1969/70. The old lady who owned the shop seemed to be a bit of a tartar but that might just be my memory. That's about all I can recall.  How I wish I had a Tardis and could go back to 1969. What a life it's been since then. If only I knew then what I know now! I guess we all think that at times, eh? My first driving instructor had an office in one of the shops on there too..... Eddy's School of Motoring ..... that man used to infuriate me because we always had to stop off at his house in Chapeltown to pick up something he'd left behind ....and he always came back to the car with an apple which he'd crunch all the way back to Firth Park ..... Fitkenlike   10 #95 Posted September 10, 2010 My auntie and uncle owned one of the shops in page hall in the sixties, it was on the bend close to the crossing all I can remember is it sold cheese and had one of those big cheese wire units. Sold bread and can remember potted meat as well. It was called "Balls", was either next door or the one after to Siddalls. My mum used to work there part time and I spent most of my school holidays there. Used to hang around with LLoyd Siddall when down there, think I can remember he was a bit of a good swimmer (medals and all)
 Share this content via...
