On this island if you're not maltese then you have to. The police totally ignore everyone not born on the island

Never take the law into your own hands. The police will nail you as if you had committed mass murder. If there is a shouting match or a gang bang or a car-torching outside your house, ignore it. Just take into consideration that it is outside your house and not in it. There are too many people getting crippled or killed because they have decided to face up to petty louts but haven't really the physical presence to carry it off.

Don't let anger and moral indignation get the better of you. Turn a blind eye and remember your responsibilities to those around you who rely on you.

The best thing to do is put a small ad in the paper requesting help with your problem. In a shoet while a small group of ex elete soldiers will pull up outside your house in a black van.

In no time at all they will construct a tank out of rubbish in your garage and procede to blow the bad guys up!

In spite of being blown 20ft into the air, the afore said villains will be unhurt, but suficiently shaken up that Mr Plod can safely round them up and take them away!

If it gets so bad you think you are living in hell, well, that's a different matter. In that case I would kill my oppressors. Luckily I have never been in such a wretched environment.

Many of the recent incidents we have read in the news are about people who storm out of their house to confront yobs who are vandalising their cars which are parked outside. Much as I despise anyone who takes his aggression out on another man's property, still I will respectfully remind everyone that the car is parked on the public highway. Anyone passing who has a headful of bad vibes brought on by booze and drugs will sometimes not be mindful of the niceties of twentyfirst-century urban society, especially if he is with a group of people who have likewise been intoxicated. Sometimes they will take their collective grievances out on a car.

The car owner - hearing the resulting clamour through the window - will be tempted disproportionately to respond in the instinctual way : to go outside and shout threats at the vandals.

The horror show lies in the fact that there is no-one to stop him from reacting as his instincts demand. The drug- and booze-drenched youth no longer know right from wrong and will attack the car-owner as willingly as they attacked his car. Result: one crippled or dead car-owner.

Ask yourself : is it worth it?

Either leave the house to kill your oppressor - or stay in and be philosophical about your loss. Don't storm out of the house half-cocked, ready to scream nonsensical threats but not ready to deliver the mortal blow.

Turn a blind eye. Let the police handle it.

I wouldn't as some people are so demented you could just find yourself in trouble. However neither would I turn a blind eye particulaily if the problems were causing myself or my neighbours hassle. I'd start leaning on the council if they could do anything or badger the police into action. Also if I knew of shops that were selling alccohol to under-age peeps [for example] then I'd have no hesitation in shopping them.

I'm actually considering raising the issue of 'tagging' and stupid spray paint daubs which seem to be on the increase near me and asking why can't the sale of spray paints be made much more difficult after all they did it for glue didn't they

Until it happens to you, you dont think that you would, BUT something inside you feels the need to challenge them. Ive been aggressively approached on two occasions, once by a woman demanding drug money who turned on me when I said no, and a bunch of lads demanding 50p from me. You get an inner strength from somewhere. In my case I was lucky, as they backed down, but my common sense told me I was wrong to do this.

The overall problem lies in the fact is that, put under pressure, man is a creature who will rise up and sort out his own problems. This can sometimes result in someone getting badly wounded or even killed.

Living in a stable society has its obvious advantages, but sometimes individuals forget that there is a complex social structure out there. Sometimes they feel alone and isolated. And sometimes they will resort to the option of confronting forces that they are actually unable to subdue. Instincts can be often self-defeating.

Let the yobs demolish the car. Unless you can one-hundred-percent say that you will have the upper hand with these degenerates then don't go out. Leave it. Deny your instincts, even if it stings.
