annac Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Due to the recent departure of a much loved pet I'm looking for two new gerbils. My old one was inherited as a single male and I was reluctant to introduce a partner due to mating/fighting problems. This time round I want to keep a pair, any suggestions on whether females would fight less than males and where to get them from? I would prefer a home to a pet shop
papillon Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Females get on just fine together - I kept three in one tank, and they loved each other to bits.
Wysseri Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 In general you will hear that females are more likely to declan than males are, however my experience suggests the opposite but it can depends a lot on where you get your gerbils from. Males can be introduced to young juveniles very easily and need a rather simple split for a couple of hours and they should be fine together, where as an adult female is less likely to be as willing to take on a youngster... A pair of either sex would be great though, last time I went paws here in broomhill was getting their gerbils from a good source, however they don't get gerbils in often and I've not been in for a year or more now so I'm not sure if it's still the same situation.
