Mrs Hyde Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Can anyone tell me what these are? over the last few days Ive downloaded 3, then when i booted up my pc yesterday, it said "windows failed to start" and referred to any software i had downloaded, as id only downloaded Java, could this be to blame? Thanks..
JoeP Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Java is a language that helps you run some programs on web sites. It checks home every now and again to see if there are any updates, and then downloads and installs them. I think it will be unusual if the Java updates are the cause of this - I've installed them all so far and all is well for me, so far.

sixriver Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 When windows is starting up. Press F8 to get the start up options screen, then start in Safemode. Do a System restore to a point in time before you downloaded the updates. (Start > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore) Java itself is fairly safe to install but Windows might have gone a bit wonky when installing the updates.

Thanks.. Make sure that unknowingly you dont have more Java installed than you need. Yesterday I set out to decrap my computer and found in "add remove programs" this load of Java Java runtime enviroment se v1.4.2_6 Total 138mb Java se v1.4.2_16 Total 428mb Java 6 update 3 Total 111mb Java 6 update 5 Total 114mb Grand total 791mb Just gained about 650mb of disc space on this alone. I dont know if there is any truth in it a friend told me Java does not uninstall its old programs when you install a new version
alchresearch Posted March 19, 2008 Posted March 19, 2008 That's right, it never upgrades, just adds it to any other Javas you have on your system.
Mrs Hyde Posted March 19, 2008 Author Posted March 19, 2008 Thanks everyone, i will system restore in safe mode, see if it helps:)
