367squadron Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I've been using statcounter for a few months now to track which websites people visiting mine have come from, which city accessed from and so on. The free statcounter is only for the first 500 logins. Does anybody know another free one where i can track these sort of results and it's invisible on my website. Would be grateful for any suggestions. Cheers, Gary

floyd77 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Does your host not provide you with cPanel or something similar? http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel with your username and password, then you have access to awstats etc, all free. Aussuming your host provides it of course.
sharpend Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Google Analytics - http://www.google.com/analytics/ google analytics here also - but make sure you chose the newer code - the old one ?urchin? is being phased out The new one promises to have "great new features"
mr chris Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 for a javascript free solution, you can always use slimstat, which uses php and a mysql database. http://wettone.com/code/slimstat
esme Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 if you have php you can write a very simple one of your own
sccsux Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 if you have php you can write a very simple one of your own Or a very complex one if you're experienced in php:thumbsup:. You can also dl and install AWstats onto any domain odf your choice:)

I like statcounter, but 500 can be a bit limiting...
steev Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Be careful with awstats if you decide to use that, if you use it in any way other than cron jobs to generate static stats pages it's apparently quite insecure. If you have proper server access & anything Red Hat based webalizer will already be installed, it's like awstats except not quite so pretty. Awstats & webalizer both work from the apache server logs, so the information they give you is pretty much identical. But they may not be so easy to install if you only have normal ftp access as you have to specify the full path to your site's server logs.
