The_Shark Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 from my father's (and sometimes my own) taste to my partner's taste which is better? mozart's requiem or madness? this is a serious debate and here are two examples mozart madness
the_rudeboy Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I wish you'd just edited the other thread. My post will get lonely.
Waltheof Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I think you would have to spell out the criteria for judgement first, otherwise it merely comes down to personal preference, not a reasoned adjudication
*_ash_* Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Why choose? That has a strange and odd similarity to Mike Oldfield - TBells.
MardyBum66 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Better in what way? Hmmmm indeed. There are similarities and differences between the two, of course, but I'm not sure if you're asking for a musical analysis here. Both composers are fairly 'formulaic' in their writing style and generally write/wrote for the 'popular' scene, although I'd say Mozart tended to use more complicated musical techniques as a rule, such as harmonic progressions, polyphony, suspensions and the like. I think the answer to your question is simple. I don't think you can directly compare any two tastes in music. Each piece of music, even from the same composer, stands on its own for what it is and each listener either enjoys it or not. Oh and for the record, I like both Madness AND Mozart!
Smithster Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 How about when the two combine?.... Swan Lake (I know that Swan Lake was in fact composed by Tchaikovsky but this is a fine example of when Ska and Classical styles converge)

Jeerumba Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Madness clearly. Mozart couldn't even write lyrics - let alone nutty ones about buying condoms, stealing underwear, being an embarrassment or being Michael Caine. Nor could Mozart find 6 friends to do a funny walk with!
