Bexstars Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Hope its ok in this section Im thinking about getting war of world craft for my hubby for his birthday but I have no idea where to start I understand its online but I have never played an online game before so dont know how they work, how id go about setting it all up. Also what sort of pack would be good to start with? there seem to be so may expansion packs but I cant seem to find a beginners pack any help would be great thanks
Ghozer Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 war of world craft - hehe, oh the innocence. be aware that world of warcraft can eat up many hours, and can often cause relationship break downs, people have even died from playing it (literally)... also, be aware that there is a monthly fee (around £10 per month) to continue playing.. there is currently 1 expansion for the game, The Burning Crusade... Just buying World Of Warcraft + Expansion + 1x 60 days game time should be ehough, that would = 90 days game time (you get the first 30 days with the game) - then leave him to set it up.
Beakerzoid Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 If you were planning to buy the game I'd suggest getting the 'Battle Chest' pack from http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/3496174/World-Of-Warcraft-Battle-Chest/Product.html This has the main game and expansion, and a guide book for the game all for £17.99 (plus some free game time to start with) A bargain, and it is all you need to play the game to the full (at the moment - another expansion is due out in a couple of months, but it is not essential to buy it to continue playing) With regards the monthly subscriptions - the prices are... 8.99 GBP One-Month Subscription 25.17 GBP Three-Month Subscription 46.14 GBP Six-Month Subscription (so it is better financial sense to do the 6 month payment) Just be prepared to be shunned for a long time as your hubby starts chatting over teamspeak with his guildies and raiding group..... my other half is understanding of it all - and she is getting the game herself soon.
Cenobite Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Oh dear I would get him to try the free 10 day trial first ,then if you ever see him again upgrade the game for him but it is very addictive and so is guild wars I have been there and done it lol great games though.
Funky_Gibbon Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Be aware that the subscriptions are automatically renewed unless you've cancelled it. Once you've got it installed you'll be taken to an account creation screen where you enter your login details and your credit card details just like you would with online shopping sites. As soon as you've submitted it then your hubby will be able to log into the game and start losing many many many hours of his life trying to get the epic armour sets Just remember it was your idea when you file for divorce.

Or, you could just NOT enter credit card details, and buy the time cards from Playtime in town... works out a little cheaper and gives you more control.
Sheff_Jeff Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Eve Online is miles better anyway. WoW is for people who live in basements and are social retards.

ken1 Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 buy him something else, if you want to see him. if you think he spends too much time with you, its the perfect gift.
