The_DADDY (2) Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 First of all sorry, i didnt mean to be but he was asking what i thought of the new wheelie bins we have with the locks when i got on my soapbox and there was no stopping me. Fire prevention my hairy ass:roll: Anyway, i said my piece and got it off my chest... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh That feels better..
swordfish1 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Wheelie bins with locks on?? Never heard of them. Are you sure they're not disguised microtransmitters that monitor the weight of your bin? They're sneaky, them Sheffield council.

Possibly:hihi: He was impressed with my demonstration as to how secure they are though:D
KenH Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 It's only yours that have a lock - part of the councils ongoing campaing to harass you I suspect.
Tess Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Oo you going to be on the radio? Any ideas when? I know we all are very aware of your opinions but would love to hear them being voiced..with your voice...and not the keypad! x
AndrewC Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Fire prevention my hairy ass:roll: Not having a go or anything, but what do you suspect the actual reason for the locks is?
H.P Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 The council claim it's to prevent further arson attacks, but theres usually more to it in the long run
The_DADDY (2) Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Not having a go or anything, but what do you suspect the actual reason for the locks is? I have an idea and its NOT fire prevention. Here why im thinking its a con. Plastic melts. Period!. And the locks on the bin are less than usefull. Try pushing one over on its back, see what happens* Then tell me its to prevent arson.:) (*have a dustpan and brush at the ready.)
cgksheff Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 It is a trial to see what can be done to reduce the problem of wheelie bin arson. You would chastise the council for not trying to do something. No? So ... if the locks don't work, why not let the relevant people know?

Read into that what you like but letme ask you this. In all the years ive lived on this estate i can honestly say ive only ever heard of a couple of bins been set alight in something like 8 years. There was an occasion a little while ago when a neighbour got theirs set on fire but that was simply because he was a fiddler and therefore hes a special case. Why not try something like this on the Manor, Parson cross or one of the other rougher parts of Sheffield. Because there isnt really a problem with it on this part but if they trial it here they can then say it was a success and then roll it out to the rest of the city. Obvious really.
