m^rk Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I am Beginning to feel Very Disheartened at the Moment with the Fundraising that I am continiously trying to do, I had an Article put in the Sheffield Star & the Local Gazette to try & Raise Money for both the Sands & Jessops Special Care Unit to HELP OTHERS !!! through both of these Very worthwhile Causes yet Not one Person in the Whole of Sheffield Donated a Single penny which Quite frankly Find Astonishing. I find myself Now Thinking why Do I bother spending Hours of my time a Day trying to raise money for other people's benefit & i Will tell you why i do bother for nothing & that is because I care because that's Just the way I am. The only Logical Reason that I can think of that I my Jusgiving Pages have not recieved any donations is because of people not liking putting there bank details on the Internet:confused: But on the other Hand if people wanted to Give a Donation they could have done so through the star so yet again i am Left abit baffled as to why not one person has donated anything in the whole of sheffield. Same goes for the Football Tournament a Whole Host of People promised to help me yet & play in the Tournament yet they have not even had the Courtesy to get in Contact with me. I will continue to Fundraise because i wan't to do this For Sands & the Unit at Jessops Especially because of the Excellent Care & Support That they Provide For Bereaved Parents & sick & Premature Babies respectively. I would Just like to say before Anyone gets the Wrong end of the Stick I am not an Ungrateful Person I am Just feeling A little Disheartened at the lack of Donations. Mark
Zebra Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Don't be disheartened, I think people have charities close to their hearts. Sands and Jessops is obviously close to yours, I know why, I've got twins and the whole story was very emotional. My chosen charity is St Luke's because my Nannan died there 2 years ago after a very long illness and St Luke's were fantastic. I do much to support them (though not the Graves issues). I don't like giving my bank details, especially to smaller locally initiated funds. Not because it isn't important but because you can never be certain about the security put in place. A large national charity inspires trust because they have lots of people who deal with the money. Perhaps you could find ways to give your efforts a more official perspective and possibly use paypal or eBay... something which people trust and feel comfortable with. Other than that, keep your chin up, there are many people out there who do support such places and would support you if they knew about you or could drop cash in a tin instead.

Hi Zebra Thanks for your Reply people who wish to Donate to the Sands or Jessops can Donate Through Paypal to both of these Account's that is how I Donated some money that was given to me by a friend to Donate to both Charitys. I have Thought about Putting a leaflet together & Going Round some Major Companies & Seeing if they can help aswell as getting in contact with the National Newspapers & Media Companies in teh country but it's Finding the Right Person to Contact. rubydazzler Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Don't lose heart, eventually you'll find that it all comes together and you start getting some response. You just have to keep on keeping on!
Dozy Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 That's really rotten, not getting any donations, after all your efforts. Sometimes it just takes time for things to take off, and you shouldn't lose heart, I'm sure all your efforts will be rewarded in the end. I don't remember seeing you put a link to your site on SF when you had the article in the newspaper - did I miss it? Would it help if you included it in your signature in future, in case anybody on the Forum would like to donate? I'm sure I've seen it done before on here. But please try not to think about you disappointment now - as JoeP said on another thread, pondering on things in the early hours is not productive, as that's when you tend to be at your lowest and therefore more negative than usual. Things will seem better in the morning, I'm sure.
DIVA Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Mark, sorry to hear how you're understandably feeling. Try not to get disheartened, it's great what you're trying to do. Just by reminding people these charities are out there, it's helping. How do you know that people have not made donations to your given charities directly, because of the great work you've done? Can I suggest that maybe you have a look at events that are already going on and ask people involved if they'd like to support? I don't know how you'd feel about this but there maybe local community groups that you could give a short talk to, in return for asking for donations at the end. If you promised them a receipt from the charities, that should satisfy their requirements. Good luck

Bruno Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Mark! sadly when you think people are behind you they are not, over the last 29 years I have raised quite a few thousand for charities, it may seem people are behind you when they reply to your thread, but does not mean they will donate cash.............. My offer still stands to you, if you want me to provide my services free of charge to put on an event at a venue of your choice, then see if anyone will support from here.... good luck mate

Diva I don't think i would be any Good speaking to Large Groups of people as i get quite Nervous:blush: I am all for Speaking & To other Breaved Familys & Helping them out though I have Actually thought about Getting In contact with Sands about setting up a Support Group because i think it could help me in some ways come to some sort of terms with everything that has happened & by Setting the Group up I could help others aswell.
