18bikes Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 does anyone know if vans are allowed into sheffield tips? I've been to chesterfield before, but as they avoid allowing anyone "trade" in, no vans are allowed. i drive an astravan (logoed for the shop I run) but want to dump some stuff from our recent house move- will I get turned away from a sheffield tip like i would and chessy? Cheers, Si
Heyesey Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 The official line is, contact the tip to arrange authorised disposal of your rubbish. What happens if you simply turn up, I don't know. The tip at Blackstock Road has a height bar to prevent vans getting in, but at least half the time it's pulled back anyway.

Cheers, Si you cant use any tips in south yorkshire if you drive a van!!!!!!!!!!why we pay our council tax ? but if you ring council they will collect for £31, YES YOU HAVE TO PAY,even if you pay your rates, they say if you own a van then it could be trade waste?,just another way to rob you, VAN MAN
18bikes Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 ok cheers guys, looks like it's the other car, a pain, but nay mind...
JonnyRandom Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 you should be ok in an astravan, I've been to blackstock and gleadless in a signwritten vivaro several times. I've had to ask blackstock to open me the barrier and Beighton once wrote the reg down but they've always been fine as it's not trade waste I've dumped.
Strix Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I have a friend who only drives a van (for her dogs, she's a breeder) and has no car in Rotherham (apparently) there is a ticket scheme which allows her one tip visit per month (or something like that)
DList Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I've taken stuff to the tip in a rented transit van before without too many problems, dunno if having a company logo on the side makes it any different...
lee79 Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Call up the company that runs the tips. They ask for details, like your address. They'll ask what you're taking, how many trips and even the colour and reg of the van. Then they call/fax your details through to whichever tip you're going to, then they get back to the office, who then call you to say you can go. This is what I had to do a few times when I went in a rented transit, not sure about smaller vans, but with the company logo on the side I'd call.
18bikes Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 well, the forum wont let me post a link (as a new member) - but the answer is there on the council website- they run a call and book procedure for vans. so, hopefully, that'll be alright!
Marooned Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I once went to the Dumpit site in High Green with a load of boxes etc in my works van, my mate had just come back from living abroad and had set up home from scratch. The site monkeys reckoned it was trade waste and he ended up telling them that he could show them receipts to prove that they were bought privately. They then backed down and let us in. Got my own back later by reporting one of them for playing cricket with a tennis ball that narrowly missed hitting my side window, I wouldn't have minded, but he wasn't on a break and after all I was paying his wages through my taxes.
