Does anyone know where they live? How many? Heard a lady talking about them on the bus yesterday but she said they had been moved on by builders during the week because of the noise/disruption and the food that a lady who works at Cole Bros had not been touched for days. Where are they now?

There has been a few threads about the cats before. I believe the Cats Protection League are managing the colony. They used to live in the dereclict building next to the Education Dept on Leopold Street. (the feral cats, not the CPL)

Hi there, I think this must be a different colony cos there are kittens involved and if the colony were being managed, there would be no kits. They are definitely near Cole Bros. I rescued 19 cats from Coles 15 years ago and thought I had caught them all. Very concerned to hear that kittens have re-appeared. Tks for replying.

Hi Magsie

I think the CPL were managing them, perhaps they arnt then? I have tried to search for the threads but cant find anything, I will keep looking. Coles is not far from the ED so I think they are probably one and the same? it is behind the City Hall as apposed to at the front (which is Coles end)

I think she said they were behind the sports dept which belongs to Coles where building work started last week. I'll go down today to see if I can see them but it would be great to know if someone has seen them in the last few days. The ones I rescued lived in the derelict building at the side of Coles which was flattened 15 years ago. Most of them were in a terrible state of health, poor things, altho regularly fed. It didn't stop them breeding tho, that's the sad part.

Hi Gemima, thanks so much for your help. I also saw this thread. Some say the RSPCA are dealing with them, others say the CPL. I fear no one is really. As I said earlier, if the colonies are being managed by RSPCA/CPL kittens shouldn't be born. The whole idea of 'management' is to ensure the colonies fade out. If anyone out there has a contact at RSPCA or CPL and can confirm definitely that there is a policy to deal with the town centre ferals could they please let me know. The derelict buildings are being cleared now and it doesn't bear thinking about what will happen to these unwanted cats. I also need to know where they have moved onto. Tks everyone.

I agree totally, but however you try to manage a colony if there is one unspeyed queen that is un catchable, (some do wise up to the traps) it only takes one Tom from a neighbouring colony or even domestic pet to come along and then bingo the colony starts up again. It could be that CPL are doing their best and failing miserably perhaps. You could try PMing "Katkin" as she fosters for CPL and may have some contacts, to find out what is happening with them?

Good luck I know how frustrating it is. I worked for an animal sanctuary for many years and spent many a hour and day trying to trap ferals in order to neuter, it is hopeless with a large colony unless managed correctly. It means someone on standby to monitor the traps regulalry and making sure the traps dont get pinched is another story, they soon wise up and avoid the traps alltogether. It is so sad.

Ok sweet, thanks. I had no problem trapping 15 years ago. In fact I couldn't keep pace with them! I was just one person with a trap and a husband who was willing to help. In less than a fortnight I got 19, housed them in my sheds, garage. All rehomed except 3 who were so poorly that they had to be put to sleep. Am willing to do it again provided I know exactly where they are now. PLEASE EVERYONE KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THEM AND LET ME KNOW WHERE THEY ARE NOW.

Ok I am happy to help in what ever way I can. Spare time is a big factor for me as I run a busy house (numerous animals, hubby and toddler) and also work full time running my own business as well as other animal charity commitments and fundraising, but I will try and help you please let me know what help you need. I can certainly try for traps and release locations once neutered ( I am a horse owner so know some yards). I know a couple of local cat rescues and can also help with food.

I will PM my phone number.
