In need of a bit of help? Looking for equipment for a charity event

Hiya

I don't really like posting asking for help but we really need it.

My husband and friend are embarking on a kayak expedition next month(should have been June but they've had to bring it forward) where they will be kayaking from London to sheffield, some 300+ miles, over 10/11 days. They are doing this to raise money for Bliss the Premature baby charity.

A lot of the stuff these guys needed they have had to buy themselves as neither where kayakers before this. So in all they have had to shell out around £1000 each from there own money. Funds are now tight but there are still things they need. I just wondered if anyone had any of the following stuff then could they be borrowed or donated? failing that does anyone know where they may be able to get the best deal on this stuff?

Any help is hugely appreciated. Details of the event are in my signature.

One man tent (needs to be super small when packed)

VHF Radios x 2

Micro sleeping bag

small inflatable mattress

Deck top bag for Kayak

Dry sacks

Thanks

I assume the radios are for communication between the kayakers?

If so, the thing to look for will be PMR radios - they don't need licenses and typically have a range of up to a few kilometres.

HOWEVER - whatever you get ensure that they're waterproof and that they can be used with disposable batteries as well as rechargeables - just in case you're not near anywhere where you can re-charge.

Maplin do these - however not sure about the waterproofing side of things.

most of that list is available at a very reasonable price from CCC Outdoors near bramall lane - be really hardfaced and ring them up and ask if they'll donate the stuff :)
