vickb Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 Does anyone know if there is a minimum space that should be left to house a fridge freezer when you have new kitchen units installed. Are there some guidelines in building regulations
WallBuilder Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I would doubt it because unlike most other appliances fridge freezers can vary in height tremendously. In some new build houses the idea seems to be to leave a gap at the end of the work surface which would accomadate a standard width f/f and then if for some rreason you want seperate units there is usually a piece of work surface left to bridge the gap.
Strix Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 no building regs, but you need 61cm to be able to get a 60cm full size appliance between the wall and a cupboard for instance, so you could choose to purchase a 55cm appliance or I think they still do a 50cm f/f basically make sure your's isn't going to get stuck you need a couple of inches clearance at the back for the air to pass over the vanes which carry the heat out of the unit
Phylis Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Our fridge/freezer is a 55cm and we have left a 2 inch gap at the back for air flow. The problem we have is getting it back out of the hole!
Funky_Gibbon Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Are there some guidelines in building regulations If there are then nobody consulted them when they installed the kitchen in my flat. Nobody manufactures a fridge/freezers (or even just a fridge) that will fit into the space it is supposed to fit into. If I'd known that when I bought the place I'd have definitely lowered my offer.
julado Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 If you come under Sheffield Homes - the decent homes refurbishment rules state you have to have 66cms space.....60 for the appliance and 3cm each side for finger space to get appliance in and out....and as a result of this I decided not to have my kitchen done. My appliances are smaller than the legal requirement and at the moment fit - in their new scheme all my appliances would not fit in the kitchen which is also against the rules.....no win situation
