neoteric Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I know a few people have already shown interest so here goes -this Easter Sunday March 23 - surprise, surprise it's the same as last year when we had glorious weather for this walk and scoobz treated us all to some Easter cakes. I notice that scoobz is on holiday over Easter so it looks like it's down to me to continue this tradition. For those wanting a shorter walk (3-4 miles) we'll be headed up through the beautiful Rivelin Valley, then anyone who fancies a longer walk, we shall carry on up Wyming Brook to Lodge Moor and then back to Rivilin a the total distance for the extended walk is approx 8 miles. Those wanting breakfast before setting off meet at the cafe at Rivelin Dam between 9:30 and 10:00; the walking will start from the cafe at 10.30. This is a really nice walk, with Wyming Brook in particular being a spectacular climb, but also very rewarding. When we reach Lodge Moor we can call at one of our favourite pubs the Sportsman, which serves exceptionally good home-made food, including a carvery. Any would-be walkers who have been thinking about trying a walk would be well-suited with this one. As well as the delights of the Rivelin and Wyming, there are also spectacular views from up at Lodge Moor. Not to mention 2 great eateries and the promise of Easter buns as well! Oh my you will need this to walk off all those calories. If you've never been on a Forum walk, and fancy a lovely Spring stroll in gorgeous countryside in friendly company, then this is ideal for you. Also note I'm planning to do a shorter walk on Easter Monday as well - details to follow in a couple of days.
Joey Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Third time lucky, I'm going to try again to join you all. Might set off on Saturday night and camp outside the cafe to make sure I make it Mmmm, sausage and egg sandwiches
inkie Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 Count us in - we'll do the shorter bit though as we need to back in reasonable time.
busy lizzie Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Count me in too. I would like to do the longer version as I have missed two weeks and will have some catching up to do!!
scoobz Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 For the first time in goodness knows how long, I won't be walking this Sunday due to Billysmum and I taking a short break to Cornwall. If anyone from the Forum is down that way and fancies meeting up for either a walk round Dodman Point, or a coastal path walk from Gorran Haven to Mevagissey or even an afternoon at the Lost Gardens of Heligan, just let me know and I'll start a thread so we can have an SF Cornwall meet! Hope you all enjoy your Easter weekend, and that you don't get snowed in. But if you do, don't fret yourselves about us two cos IT NEVER SNOWS IN CORNWALL
canada_girl Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 Sounds great neoteric! Cookman and I should be there but may opt for shorter walk depending on packing commitments (unless everyone wants to come over to ours after the walk and help ) Unsure about breakfast at this time as well. . . .
Nooka Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 I wont be joining you this weekend, visiting parents and packing for my hols! The next walk I can do will probably be 20th April! I will miss you all!
Hemlock Posted March 20, 2008 Posted March 20, 2008 We won't be on this one either - off camping for the weekend! See you all next week. Have a good one!
LinchpinLulu Posted March 21, 2008 Posted March 21, 2008 We are going to try to do at least SOME of this walk, Neo. Depending on SNOW and MOTHERS we should be able to do the walk as far as the Sportsman where we will probably have lunch. If there's a blizzard, probably not:D
neoteric Posted March 21, 2008 Author Posted March 21, 2008 We are going to try to do at least SOME of this walk, Neo. Depending on SNOW and MOTHERS we should be able to do the walk as far as the Sportsman where we will probably have lunch. If there's a blizzard, probably not:D It was beautiful up there this morning see my pictures - couldn't resist that sunshine. The forecast says heavy snow for Saturday night - but I will still be at the start unless it's really so bad that the trams stop running. The Rivelin Valley/Wyming Brook parts of the walk are reasonably well sheltered - the only exposed bit is the road up to Rivelin Dam. Just wrap up warm and hope the pub has a nice roaring fire? Just have to play it by ear and be a bit flexible - bet scoobs is on the beach in Cornwall in his shorts and latest snazzy headgear:)
