Abbeydale Picture House - what film would you like to see there

We're still finalising who will be coming along on the day - I've suggested our costume man from Woodseats brings along some clothes for people to try on and be photographed in, and that we do some special effects make up such as black eyes and scabby scars for the kids instead of the usual face paint. So watch this space!
If can get a selection of nineteen twenties costume it would be very much in keeping with the place.

As for films.... Half classic, half box office? I'd very much prefer going to released films at my local than at sodding UGC tother side of town and where I can't park.

Rich's idea isn't daft, get new films in there :)

Get your hawaii shirts out and dust off those grass skirts! We're going to be showing, for one night only (at 7.30pm on 6th Sept), SOUTH PACIFIC! The film is 50 years old this year and we're doing it the old-fashioned way, with an interval. The whole evening will be themed, so dress up, sing along, and swing by our cocktail bar (you can take your drinks in with you for the film!). Prices are £5 and you can book by calling 07775 966106.

If you've got kids there is a 4.30 showing of Hoodwinked (and again, we'd love it if they came dressed as their favourite fairy tale character).

All money raised will go to the restoration fund.

ooh I could bring my mum - she'd love it!!

I saw my first film there it was Pinnochio. Im glad it is being restored it has taken a battering from the winds we had a couple of years ago. I will look forward to seeing the result of the resoration. Anyway my chosen films are

1. Rebecca (Watch this every time its on tv even though i have it on DVD).

2. Now Voyager

3. All About Eve

3. Mildred Pierce

4. Dark Victory

5. Mrs Miniver

6. Brief Encounter

I would have said Whatever happended to Baby Jane but I saw it as a child and it haunted me with the rat scene (I have it on DVD though). I would also like to see films that have been forgotton, especially from the 40's some are on SKY. I Definitely think they ought to have a vintage season every so often, i would love it, but there has to be a choc ice woman at the interval who sells little tubs of ice cream (wish it could be Taggys though).

I went along to the screening of South Pacific last night and it was fab! I went with two schoolfriends - the last film we saw there was in 1970 ish: Romeo and Juliet - Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey, complete with the No 24 bus revving up outside during the death bed scene!

Great atmosphere last night, super film - a bit risque in parts for 50 years ago and some parts were VERY camp! Loved every minute of it, just wished a few more people had sung along!

I think a fiver was too cheap - we all said we would have happily paid 10.00

I can't wait for the next film, I'm hoping for Oklahoma!

I'm delighted you had a great time, I was helping out (it was fun dressing up) and the evening had such a great feel! Please do come along next weekend, Sat 13th and Sun 14th 10am - 4pm for our open weekend. You get a tour of the building, hear about the history, our plans for restoration, you can sponsor a roof slate, become a 'Friend' and tell us which film you'd like to see next (oh, you just have, thank you!).
