Abbeydale Picture House - what film would you like to see there

How about a late night screening of some classic horror films? The Mummy (1932) or Mark of the Vampire (1935) spring to mind.

I work at the Picture House and I think they should show the first movie that was ever played there which was a silent film with a 12 piece orchestra called Call Of The Road!!!

By The Way-Work on the roof (Phase 1) will start when sufficent funds have been raised! we are close-under 1 million pounds needed then work can start!

Get your hawaii shirts out and dust off those grass skirts! We're going to be showing, for one night only (at 7.30pm on 6th Sept), SOUTH PACIFIC! The film is 50 years old this year and we're doing it the old-fashioned way, with an interval. The whole evening will be themed, so dress up, sing along, and swing by our cocktail bar (you can take your drinks in with you for the film!). Prices are £5 and you can book by calling 07775 966106.

If you've got kids there is a 4.30 showing of Hoodwinked (and again, we'd love it if they came dressed as their favourite fairy tale character).

All money raised will go to the restoration fund.

The Abbeydale Picture House (fantastic old building which has just started to be restored) are planning to do a 'for one night only - film returns to the Abbydale Picture House'. Probably a matinee for kids followed by an evening event for us grown-ups.

We'd like to find out what would get us a full house of around 300 seats. So, what film or sort of film would you go to see there? Would your mates come along too? You don't have to name a film, perhaps suggest you'd like a blockbuster, Bollywood, old British classic, a black and white, musical, etc etc.

I'll start the cinema reel rolling by saying I'd deffo leave the house to go and see Brief Encounter or something with Audrey Hepburn in it.

I'll feed back all your views to the rest of the team that are supporting the restoration so please let us know what you think. Ideas for the matinee most welcome too.

I went to the open day last Autumn and was well impressed by the amount of remaining features despite the raping by intermediate owners. and I donated which I was really happy to have the opportunity to do.

Though, South Pacific... I'll give it a miss.

Continue that painting, I noticed some not grey on the front!

Missus and I will more than likely walk the hundred yards or so from the house to the House. Will the firemen try and get rid of their smoke detectors this year again?

We're still finalising who will be coming along on the day - I've suggested our costume man from Woodseats brings along some clothes for people to try on and be photographed in, and that we do some special effects make up such as black eyes and scabby scars for the kids instead of the usual face paint. So watch this space!

I'd come and see the new Batman.

My original plan was to see it on the day of release, dressed in my Batman costume to mark the occasion, would that be OK at Abbeydale if you showed it?

Holy premiere-themed costumes! We aren't planning to show it just yet. But please do come along to the film night on 6th Sept or the open weekend 13th/14th Sept in your Batman costume, that'd be fab!
