mc55 Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 I have a monthly dd (or standing order) to the RSPCA and assumed that the money went to a central pot and was then shared on a pro-rata type basis with all of the RSPCA agencies nationwide. I was disappointed to learn recently that this may not be the case and the local branches do not benefit from my money in anyway and that my money pays for advertising and inspectors etc. I really want my money to go to the animals that need help - is this true ? mc
xxhunniixx Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 yes i beieve it is hun a lot of ppl on here know my views on the rspca but i think the rescue fees cover the animals and the 'donations' cover everything else id be more inclined to help places like rain rescue thornberry and roth dog rescue myself they do need th money for the aimals not for advertising and expensive call centres!
Gemima Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Yes it is true. Your donations will have paid the salary of some "fatcat boardroom exec" that is probably on a three figure salary. You can arrange to dontate to your local branch if you get in touch with them they will advise.
katkin Posted March 14, 2008 Posted March 14, 2008 Yes I knew that too- each branch has a registered charity number and if you contact the branch you would like your donation to go to, they will tell you how to set it up
mc55 Posted March 14, 2008 Author Posted March 14, 2008 it just goes to show doesn't it, you think you are doing you bit and it turns out you are just lining somone elses pocket. I do want to start donating to an additional animal charity - is there a link on here somewhere with them all in one place so I can choose (I'd love to help them all, but sadly am restricted to two for the timebeing). thanks
Strix Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 if you visit the Rain Rescue website you'll find links to an assortment of different animal charities, mainly dogs, and mostly local Rain Rescue raises funds and distributes money to whichever rescue is currently in need, besides taking in a small number of dogs and rehoming directly http://www.rainrescue.co.uk
Rainrescue Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I often wonder how many people still do not realise this and its a pity the local branches of the RSPCA can't get it across to the public so they understand how to donate directly to a local charity. Sheffield RSPCA has now been closed for 2 years - which has left a huge hole in the assistance to animals in this area. With their Monty's Millions appeal - they are on the road to rebuilding the new centre in Sheffield - down Attercliffe. It can't come soon enough. So ANYONE wanting to help local animals can raise the awareness that the Sheffield RSPCA does need the funds to be allocated locally and can be done via the MONTYS' MILLIONS. Meanwhile people must also help the small groups to keep going. Groups like ourselves don't have the money to advertise like the nationals can and we are at the brunt of trying to help the animals in distress now. It annoys me to see rescues like The Blue Cross in my local vets when there isn't a Blue Cross for miles around to help our pets.
Birth-Peace Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 There is still a RSPCA in Sheffield, just a much smaller version that relies on fosterers, but they still have cats and dogs that need care. I was amazed when I went in with our foster kitten for her jabs to see a poster saying that they don't get any money from the National RSPCA, it seems ridiculous. I'm sure that the local RSPCA branch would be very grateful for your donation instead.
Rainrescue Posted March 16, 2008 Posted March 16, 2008 I didn't know that they are still doing anything for the dogs? What is that then? Do they have some dogs in foster homes looking for homes, or are they still helping people take in who need help? Would really appreciate knowing that in case we are in need in future. I know they still use foster homes for cats - but just didn't know for the dogs. Like I say - the more funds they get in though - the quicker and better the centre will be when it opens.
Birth-Peace Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 If you look at my signature link you can see the animals that are currently needing homes with the RSPCA in Sheffield. RSPCA do have dogs in foster care - not many but there are always different ones coming in.
