New buildings in Sheffield - Do you like them?

The building that houses Cafe Rouge is one of the worst buildings I've ever seen and only a fool would have let it past the planning stage as it adds no harmony whatsoever.

St Pauls tower is only going to add to the randomness of the buildings around there. I guess money talks more than common sense.

I don't know where people get this idea that Sheffield ever had a harmonious building plan, it's not like anyone ever sat down and planned the layout/buildings/skyline of Sheffield.

Like most cities in England it's totaly eclectic with each period adding it's own buildings totaly randomly wherever there is space. After half of London was destroyed by fire they asked Wren to devise a "plan" for the rebuilding, then they totaly ignored it and built the city you see today, it's the English way.

Hence this is why most English cities are a no goer for most tourists from the rest of Europe and America. They are seen very much as unimportant, uninspiring and inhumane environments.

Ask any American where in England he would consider visiting other than London and he would probably say somewhere that isn't in England.....like Edinbrugh:roll:. Other than that the options would be York and Bath rather than Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham etc.

I did and if my plans had been implemented in their entirety we'd see a much more attractive and vibrant city than we're seeing today.

I don't agree, tourists flock to London, I'd even go as far as to guess that more people visit London than Paris or Rome.

Again, I don't agree, thats sounds more like your feelings towards the cities, most "foreigners" I've spoken to see London as exactly the opposite of that, they see it as exciting, experimental, progressive and modern.

Hard luck mate, never mind, don't let it make you bitter and twisted.

If you read my post properly you'll see I said most cities. That obviously doesn't include London as it has a huge amount of business people travelling to and from it as well as tourists so is going to be one of the most highly visited places on earth.

Again, see above.

Don't worry , when all this blandness is being demolished in a few years time my plans will still be there to be implemented.

Quality always shines through.

I'm sure that thought kept Mr Wren going.

My plans aren't quite on the scale of Wren's but then again he did get a knighthood for his services.

Me.....I'll just settle for a little notoriety.;)
