Not under my roof!

I was 19 when I first went out with "our lass". If I stopped over at her parents her mother would bring us breakfast in bed and then run us a bath for us both to share!!

But when she stopped at my parents I think they were too embarrassed to even discuss sleeping arrangements. The first time she stopped I thought it would be ok for her to share my bed, and out of respect we didn't get up to much, but in the morning I got a long lecture delivered by my parents in full Victorian mode (they were both standing in front of the fireplace, hands on hips) about respect, “not under my roof”, “not in my day” etc. I left home 2 weeks later.

As an aside, the sum total of the sex education I got from my parents was my mother shuffling into my bedroom when I was about 13 to tell me “Don’t have sex with dirty women.”

In my experience sex with dirty women is the best sort there is, but maybe I just have unusual tastes.

When I lived in Sheffield, at home with my mother, she was quite strict about my sex life.

She wouldn't say anything if one of my girl-friends stayed overnight, say, about once every 4 or 5 weeks ; any more than that and she'd start moaning that I was a ,

"A promiscuous little bl***der ; worse than a tom cat. "

It used to upset me a bit as I was 37 years old at the time and I'd gone out with the same sweet 'girl' for about 20 years.

Oh, well, times change and things were different then. It was very hard, as the actress said to the Bishop.

More than once a month at 37 years old your mum may have had a point. :D

But how is it a lack of respect to ask if your boyfriend or girlfriend can stay over? Obviously there is an age issue as well, but older teenagers are clearly young adults. I just think they should be treated like they are as well, only if they have earned your respect and you think them responsible... ?

Does peoples” head in the sand”, “lets pretend it doesn’t happen” attitude have anything to do with the high teenage pregnancy rate?

Is allowing "sex under my roof" encouraging it or am I fostering a caring responsible attitude towards something that is going to happen any way?
