mr_busdriver Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 There are lots of very successfull businessmen who left school with no quals, many has dyslexia (Richard Branson for example) And if you google Dragons Den (the TV programme) and look at the profiles of the dragons you will find many of them lack quals, indeed one of them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Farleigh was seen to be backward To me, being academic is OK, however to be a sucessfull businessman you need something different. Its said most successfull entrepeneurs tend to be the worst employees (get sacked loads), however on their own, are the bees knees and see things others can't Good luck, just go out and do it. Your lack of an academic background certainly would be no barrier, as has been proved by others in the past.

I actually think that not being too academically-minded can sometimes be an advantage, when starting up in business. Many more qualified people are tempted by steady, pretty good wages, and others tend to be 'perfectionists', so tend to keep putting off going into business.
m^rk Posted March 13, 2008 Author Posted March 13, 2008 There is a few things that have Annoyed me so far with trying to set a Business up. 1. when i first contacted the Princes Trust about setting my own business up i was passed on to about 6 or 7 people before i got the right person to Deal with my application for a Low Interest Loan. 2. I have been messed about constantly by the Job centre trying to force me into Jobs that I Don't want to do and that are at the minumum wage to £6 an hour at Best not to mention the Fact that they had to Re-interview me for the New Deal Process Even though it was Not My Fault I had to be taken off of the New Deal scheme due to the Tragic events of September but no this is The Job centre we are talking about here. 3.Now that I have Finally got the person I need to speak to/see about the Low Cost Loan I am being constantly messed about again she promised to call me 2 or 3 times and i have still not received a call. It's totally unprofessional on her part but i just have to bite me Tongue and get on with it and make sure that i do get to speak to her & secure a meeting with her about the Low Interest Loan.
DIVA Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 You seem to be learning quickly. Business, especially at the start, often involves being patient, humble, and biting your tongue. You're right not to burn your bridges, but don't be afraid of hassling them, it shows you're keen, persistent and not going to fall at obstacles. Always call her by her name when you speak to her, she'll feel a bit more empathy with you.

Don't worry if there is anyone that needs to be Hassled I will sort it out I am getting back in contact with the woman from the princes Trust in the Morning anyway to Arrange a Meeting aswell as ringing the Bloke from NEDCC who was supposed to be ringing me about Arranging a Viewing for an Industrial Unit but he is another one who has not Kept his Promises.
sharpend Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 Duncan Bannatyne did it with not only no qualifications but a dishonourable discharge from the navy and a criminal record. Good Luck:thumbsup:

Good Luck:thumbsup: And you have hit the nail on the head. The job centre probably will be about as much use as a soapy bath for bus passengers. * no one will know how best to use it * None of them will even show any interest
