BasilRathbon Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 There are some people (mostly male) who've had beards for so long that you can't imagine them without a beard. In fact, rather like Samson without his hair, a bearded man who loses his beard may find himself unrecognised by friends and family or, if he's famous, he may find that a hair-free chin leads to the work drying up. Want proof? Have a look at this story from 2001. TV presenter Noel Edmonds agreed to have his beard shaved off for charity and soon after disappeared from our TV screens and his career was in danger of being over. 4 years later he grows his beard back, gets the job of hosting Deal Or No Deal and next thing you know he's one of our most cherished and well-known celebrities. Coincidence? I think not. So does this prove that, if you become famous with a beard, you'd be well-advised to keep the beard for all eternity?
Chopsie Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 I would say yes. Think of any famous beardy. Ever seen them without a beard? How about Billy Connolly - was he as funny during his naked chin phase? I don't think so! Rolf Harris - permabeard. Brian Blessed - permabeard. Jeremy Beadle (RIP) - permabeard. Conclusive proof I'd say...
medusa Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 There are also men whose faces are improved by their face fuzz. Eric Clapton has a very unbalanced looking face without his beard- it evens up his face.
slickwitch Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Two words - MAtthew Kelly! Bearded - funny gentle harmless Unbearded - evil paedophile who should be burnt at the stake and then dug up and burnt again!
Eddie_shef Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 cousin it would never have landed the part without excessive hair
BasilRathbon Posted March 12, 2008 Author Posted March 12, 2008 Does it work the other way. Has anyone become famous while clean shaven and found their success vanished when they grew a beard?
Kamble Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 Saddam Hussein? edit - well okay he had a moustache, but things definetly turned sour for him when he grew a beard.
beansforyou Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 HAve you noticed when men shave their moustaches off how thin their top lips are? http://www.beards.org/
