so if a building firm sacked all the british workers employed migrant workers they would pass the saving on to the house buyer rather than keep the profit for themselves

You are extrapolating an assumption without addressing my question. You should have delivered the Budget :hihi:

Building costs have more than doubled in the last 10 years. Developers work on a margin of around 15%.

no - but if a job pays £5.60 and someone wants a job the solution is obvious.

eventually the guy who started on £5.60 could have progressed or been promoted or studied to do other things.the guy who won't work for £5.60 will still be sat at home.

What about the British worker who wants to actually live and raise a family in his own country, who will never go above that rate of pay? Not all jobs DO offer 'promotion prospects'. It's alright for him if he can get a council house, but if not, he's stuffed.

And it's utterly wrong that we are both taking away from Poland the teachers that their taxpayers have paid to train for their benefit and putting them into jobs that our school leavers should be looking forwards to doing.

It's no wonder so many young men just turn to an alternative way of life (dole, crime, etc) when all they have to look forwards to when they finally leave school at 16 is competing with some migrant worker for the decent jobs, and as for the basic jobs is priced out of doing them. It's sick, frankly. These young British people can't wait to leave school at 16, get a bit of cash, buy beers at weekend, maybe a car, then a flat and a bird and a couple of kids - it's just normal life they want for Christ sake! As for the sneering assumption that people want everything handed to them 'on a plate' - plenty of people never even get near the kitchen door let alone near the plates.

Its not a question of all jobs offering promotion it's about starting at the bottom in gainful employment, not sponging.

Its the Global Village now, free movement of trade and staff. Footballers can do it so why can't the man in the street.

How many British people do you meet in a sunny country selling timeshares or club venues, for less than they could earn on minimum wage over here? I have family that have done it.

So why shouldn't people look for jobs over here.

Well - these eastern europeans would be happy to cram twenty people into the hovel that the council have so generously given to a mate of mine - after he split from his partner and did the right thing by letting her and kids keep the house - after paying wodges of council tax for the past 12 years - so what are these 'petoboros' whinging about - keep us in cheap carrots don't they?

It's a poky little place, this flat they gave my pal - or 'cosy' if you're an estate agent/ housing officer. And there are people walking around the estate with tigers and polar bears instead of pit bulls.

But hey ho - we've only ourselves to blame - I mean, that we've fought wars and sweated blood to build a fair country where people are, 'paid a fair wage for a fair days work' - we can blame ourselves for not being prepared to accept poo poo wages for doing mind numbing bone breaking work - also - some of the brothels these guys are opening are really hot - so I'm told!

Silver linings eh?

It just makes you want to weep, doesn't it? :(

I feel so angry about all of this, and yet totally impotent to do anything about it. It's just amoral and wrong to me.

I always knew this 'global village with coffee coloured children' stuff was just about globalisation and meant to line the pockets of the shareholders of big companies

So if it's a free for all then, why should we complain when our young British men find alternative and maybe unpalatable ways of life? They're just doing the survival thing after all.

In the real world, not all jobs offer a chance of 'climbing up' - we always need street sweepers and shelf stackers, some of us even need ruddy cleaners to wash up our Le Cruset pans encrusted with larks' vomit and mung bean residue - there will always be people who earn a living and will never climb the tree because there isn't one for them to climb. But ordinary British people cannot afford to do that now.

It takes away the very heart of the work ethic and the concept of a social contract.
