Saka Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I've lived here for 5 years now, and recently the whole Wolstenholme/Montgomery Road area seems to have changed. Where's all the graffiti come from? Why the increase in drunks on the streets and subsequent half drunken cans in my garden. I also keep seeing what can only be described as 'youths' hanging around. Walking past the Priory Hotel and The Globe Hotel can now be quite intimitating. I'm now packing sweets as makeshift protection monies just incase. Has someone been hiding their kids, lost the plot and are now drunks running riot. Or maybe the house prices have dropped so much, if these kids and drunks now live around here maybe I can afford a house too. Am I paranoid or has anyone else noticed this?
pattricia Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Nether Edge used to be a posh area years ago. How times have changed. I wonder if its because its a mostly rental area ?
netheredge Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I used to live there and still have rels there. Used to hang round around montgomery, prioryAbany, Crescent. Ive certainly seen big changes and its very sad to see a once leafy area going downhill for a variety of reasons. Yes the lager louts from wostenholme road dont help either
Saka Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 I don't think its down to the renter (I'm one I suspect, some of the patrons of the hotels might be staying at the cost of the council, almost like a drop in centre of some description. I'm glad its not just me though
Tess Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 When i lived in Nether Edge on Rundle road, (Bang opposite the big mansion), we never use to have any trouble with the neighbourhood! hearing things like this actually really amaze me because, although im not doubting it happens, as it does in most places now, it was just so different ten years ago!
CHAIRBOY Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Nether Edge used to be a posh area years ago. How times have changed. I wonder if its because its a mostly rental area ? I think there is Nether Edge and 'Nether Edge'. Am I right in thinking that "Wostenholm Road" is not even in the "Nether Edge Ward" catchment area? I think the locations mentioned are nearer Sharrow?
Saka Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 Montgomery is definately Nether Edge, Wolstenholme is probably Sharrow. This is certainly shown in the house prices. I know the houses being on sale opposite me are £280+ whereas 5-10 minutes down the road I can pick up a flat for £60K (Vendor Court) or a 3 bed house for £100k Club Garden. Look at how nice the houses are down Thornsett, Kenwood Road, Kenwood Bank etc they're less then 5 mins away from Sharrow. If I owned on of these I'd be gutted now!! I bet they wish they could move the house 5 minutes in the opposite direction.
Womerry2 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Nether Edge has an active neighbourhood group and even a market (since yesterday) - if anything, I think it's been getting better recently.
Saka Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 I suppose, we do have art to look at in our bus shelters now, and malt and hops based waterings for our gardens, probaly urine too but I've not been looking. The armed robbery at Jacksons/Sommerfield in January also gave us some media attenion we deserve.

I seem to agree with your sentiments but in whichever city you may be, there's got to be demarcation boundaries and some private folk are going to be close to the inner city suburbs - the mix of which is seen in schools!
