pesafinici Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 My 16 year old opted not to take French for GCSE, and now he is regretting it. His school says he can take the exam through them whilst he is in 6th form, but they cannot offer him tuition and suggest either evening classes or private tuition. Does anyone have experience of this?
DIVA Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Why can't they offer him tuition, yet offer him the exam? Is it a timetable clash with whatever else he is studying? If so, he could ask for their help in looking at neighbouring schools, to see if it fits with his timetable, or one of the colleges.

Does anyone have experience of this? I can offer french GCSE tuition, altho' this would usually be a support, offering extra detail, practice, and explanations where school might not have time. Could your son access French at a nearby school?
pesafinici Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 His school don't offer GCSE French to A level student's, they have suggested he might be able to go to King Edwards School evening classes or have private tuition. I was really interested in whether any one else was or had been in a similar position, and also what classes and tutors are available and at what cost...
DIVA Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I went to night school classes when I was 13/14 just because I loved a subject at school and wanted to get more of it (a bit freaky, I know). It was a great experience, I loved it and made some lovely friends there. I've never come across such an incredible and stimulating learning atmosphere, where people all wanted to learn just for the hell of it, and not because it was an educational requirement.
