lidz Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Just heard Tim Westwood speaking, is he making that voice up for comedy effect?
cgksheff Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 "The character of Ali G plays on the stereotype of a "wigger"—a white, middle-class, suburban male who revels in Jamaican and African-American culture, particularly hip hop music—though the actual ethnicity of Ali G's character is obscure, with guesses ranging from Jewish, Greek, Anglo-Saxon, British Asian and Mixed-Race to Turkish, or Middle Eastern. Baron Cohen admits that BBC Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood was an influence on the development of the Ali G character – Westwood, who hosts Radio 1's Rap Show, speaks with a faux Caribbean dialect despite his birth and education in Lowestoft, Suffolk." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_G
Guest Mod_Man Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Just heard Tim Westwood speaking, is he making that voice up for comedy effect? Not for comedy effect but yes he definitely puts it on. It would be pretty pointless hosting a Hip-Hop show with a middle English accent. He does live the life though so he may need to talk the talk to be taken seriously. I'm not a fan of Hip-Hop or Westwood by the way, but his voice can be put to great effect.
the_rudeboy Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 but his voice can be put to great effect. I can't stand listening to the bloke. He needs to grow up.....anyone would think he was 15 not 50!
StarSparkle Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I can't take anything he says in any way seriously with that stupid way he talks - it makes me want to giggle at first, and then just becomes grating. How old is he, for heaven's sake? StarSparkle

StarSparkle I don't know why I'm defending him but his target audience are urban teens with a liking for Hip-Hop. I imagine you aren't supposed to like him, I imagine him annoying you is exactly what he wants, it gives him street cred amongst his audience. It's akin to saying childrens entertainers must speak the Queen's English at all times, some times you have to dumb down for your audience. Holla
the_rudeboy Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I imagine you aren't supposed to like him, I imagine him annoying you is exactly what he wants, it gives him street cred amongst his audience. He's still a t!t of the first order. Is he 50? Oh dear god mutton talking as lamb Yes, he was born in October '57.
Guest Mod_Man Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 I must say I never realised he was 50. He looks very well for it and he seems young at heart for it too. Bloody ell, I have a new respect for Westwood.
