Zestforwork Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Is there anyone on the forum who has a diagnosis of Aspergers syndrome,or know anyone in the family with it?
Berberis Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Aspergers syndrome is very complicated and I would assume no one on here is qualified to diagnose it, especially on a faceless forum. Speak to your doctor or contact the National Autistic society (http://www.nas.org.uk) for advice.
Guest Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Aspergers syndrome is very complicated and I would assume no one on here is qualified to diagnose it, especially on a faceless forum.... Perhaps the OP already has a diagnosis - that's how I read the post anyway - and is interested in others' experiences. Jobnet_NUCA, Asperger's is much misunderstood. Discussion of it on this forum tends to bring out choice examples of those who do misunderstand and/or care less. If you are looking for information, you'd probably be better off seeking forums devoted to that area. Here's one. Google will probably throw up a few others.
mrseggy Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Is there anyone on the forum who has a diagnosis of Aspergers syndrome,or know anyone in the family with it? There are quite a few people on this forum that have a great deal of knowledge of Aspergers. Some are sufferers and others are parents (like myself) of children with AS. Why are you asking ?
Lee16 Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Hi I have been recently looking at the symptoms of ASD, as we are almost certain that my partner has some form of autism. However, during my research, I read some articles on aspergers. To my suprise, some of the symptoms listed on aspergers related to problems I have myself. I have some difficulty socialising and expressing what I want to say. I can write things down clearly, and can generally speak in conversation, but when I try to express what I'm thinking, I have difficulty and think I use too many words to explain, complicating things even more. I have problems with making coversation, especially in groups or with new people, and tend to come accross as quiet, and maybe wierd. Sometimes I avoid certain social situations because of this, as I get worried about making myself look wierd. Having said this, I consider myself as fairly intellegent, and don't have any learning disabilities. Anyway, I just wondered if any of you think it may be possible that I have Aspergers or am I just paranoid. Maybe it's just lack of confidence, I don't know. Any replies would be appreciated. Thanks Lee

If you had it, I think you would be showing somewhat more extreme symptoms

Flange Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Mild autistic traits, especially those associated with Aspergers, are present to some extent in many of us who consider ourselves, and are considered by others, to be 'perfectly normal', with men 9 times more likely to show such signs than women. Aspergers is a fascinating condition. An old friend has it, and my partner works with sufferers.

I am like it when I speak to people I feel a bit inferior to, like my boss or people I am uncomfortable with. We should start a club, all be bumbling wrecks together!!
