Well, to be honest, there are so many shootings of one sort or another in Sheffield these days, that I'm surprised they make the news at all.

A fair few years ago, the use of a gun, or even the threat to use one in a crime, was so rare, it used to create quite a sensation.

Some older Sheffielders might recall a case in the early '60's, when two men were given prison sentences of 21 and 19 years. They'd committed a series of robberies in which a gun was produced as a threat but [ as far as I know ] never actually used.

These days they would probably get an ASBO or a severe dressing down. Still, as the SYP always say, " Don't panic folks. It's not random. Our villains are all crack-shots and in any case it's worse in Detroit. "

Err no! There isa 5 year minimum sentence in this case. Then it is likeley they would receive a much longer sentence because they had committed the offence more than once. If they had previoulsy been convicted of a serious offence (not necessarily including firearms) then they would get a life term.

very true, they dont give asbo's out for gun crime offences. You can get a sentence for using a BB gun in a crime. But its true sheffields gun crime is definately getting worse.

Any chance that this thread can keep to the thread topic please? This is about a possible shooting on Gloucester Street.

Please don't post speculation or arguments about the police or how much crime is escalating- this isn't the place.

Just for information, especially for any local residents wanting ideas on how you can constribute to the debate on gun crime. Broomhall Forum is working closely with the council and police to look at ways of tackling gun crime and gang related issues across the city. If you'd like to know more about this piece of work, or how Broomhall Forum can help provide a voice for local people, private message me.

Apparently it wasn't a shooting as that means someone got shot.

It was only someone letting a gun go off - no-one was hurt from what I can gather.

But the 5 year sentence is not:
