Sara1312 Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Hi everyone. I am trying to find somewhere for my evening reception. I have booked The Cutler (not cutlers hotel) this is only a pub in town but at £3 per head and free room it's about all we can afford. I have started a thread on advise about what the pub is like and I'm scared as people are saying it's not a place to have a wedding reception. I'm really upset now and having second thoughts. The thing is I don't know where else to go. We can't afford alot but wondered if anyone could help. I'm really upset and on the brink of Please
honeyb35 Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 awww hun have you been and seen the place? tried the food ect? if so and you like it, so what? if not, why not go and see? it might be that its not considered 'posh', if thats the case then what about looking at decorating the room, maybe hiring seat covers ect,or getting clever with table decs, candles ect. at the end of the day, people are coming to see you on your special day, and to celebrate, not to fret if the seats dont match ect. plus, i'm guessing drinks will be a lot cheaper than a hotel, if i was a guest i'd be very happy at that!
the chazter Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 havnt been in but seen the images on website looks ok to me free function room for up to 400 city centre not a bad deal. dont listen to other people go have a look .
eric_the_man Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 If you mean the room above the Cutler, then its called STARDUST (or used to be) It is a very large room with revolving dance floor. The food for a buffet is fantastic BUT there is or used to be a problem with the lager there (tasted funny like the lines not cleaned properly) and the fridges and optics are poorly stocked. if it was my wedding then i would really be looking elsewhere, but be careful.......... if you have paid a deposit then they will not be willing to refund it to you. i know this because the university booked there and wanted me to do their disco, when i couldnt do that night there they changed venue, and ended up having a right battle to get their deposit back. which part of sheffield are you from as im sure you could get a good room in a pub or WMC nearer you
Sara1312 Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 It's not a matter of finding a room closer to me because our families and friends are coming from all over including Scotland and Staffordshire. I thought a pub in the city would be easier for everyone to get to. I havn't paid a deposit just yet which is why I'm trying to find somewhere else for the same price but I don't think it's possible. I'm getting married in Nether Edge but can't seem to find anywhere near there.
Star_sprinkl Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 The Nether Edge Hotel Group do function but I have no idea how much they charge. Website is http://www.netheredge-hotels.co.uk/functions.html and it says call to see about rates. On another Sheff Forum thread clogginchris has said Brincliffe Oaks, Nether Edge has a nice function room and good bar and is not too expensive (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=349&page=5). It was posted on 03-01-2005 so don't know if it is still there.

The building has been the subject of 3 arson attacks in the last month too. Have you tried the pub at the bottom of the moor? I saw someone mention there in another thread.
Classic Rock Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Have you tried the pub at the bottom of the moor? I saw someone mention there in another thread. Do you mean the Moorfoot Tavern? I suppose if you asked, the landlady might close the pub to the regulars for you if it didn't fall on a weekend night. You would have to provide your own buffet though. Check the place out first.
