Following on from several threads on here in relation to capital punishment what method of execution would you say was the best if it ever returned?

I've voted for ' burning at the stake '. Hopefully, if I was one of the ' lucky ' ones who was going to be dispatched in that way, they might let me have a quick fag before the flames were licking round my feet. [ Unless of course the Health & Safety Freaks were organising the party ].

Also, if your enemies had come along to gloat, you could at least tell them what you really think of them, without the embarrassment of ever meeting them again. Any more plus-es ? Well, one would be warm of course and if you had a pal in the crowd, he or she could possibly roast some chest-nuts and you could have a little snack before the final curtain. Last requests ?

" A little more salt please on the chestnuts and a Senior Service. Thank you . "

I've voted for the electric chair, as I once saw a documentary from the U.S. where the prisoner had to be executed twice as the first time he didn't die. He vomited blood then his head had flames shooting out of it. I thought it was an apt punishment for a child murderer.

Lethel injection just because it is seemingly more humane but I read that it is the most painful experience before death. Total paralysis coupled with the feeling that your entire nervous system is on fire.

not be long now

It is an interesting debate, especially with the prisons full to bursting. But I doubt it will make a comeback, I predict more spin and more prisons to be built.

Michael Portillo did an interesting report for Horizon about this subject.

His conclusion was that asphyxia using an inert gas was the most humane way, as the condemned goes out painlessly in a cloud of euphoria.

There was of course the US nut-job professor who said it was a terrible idea as people being put to death by the state should suffer unbearable agony prior to expiring.

It has to be humane if that is not a contradiction in terms when discussing killing someone.
