Sierra   22 #1 Posted January 20, 2005 Lestat suggested sad movies. What about sad songs? I was listening to an old Pearl Jam CD, and I thought "Last Kiss" was so sad.  What's the saddest song you've ever heard?  Sierra
 Share this content via...

I can't listen to it now. 'I'm not living, I'm just killing time' is the lyric.  UNKLE = what are you to me? is one i'm feeling right now - again for my own reasons.  I think there is generally sad stuff like Baber's adagio for strings (don't be kicking off the party with that one) But a sad song can be anything if it ties you to a moment.  Funniest sad song Shaun Of the Dead, can't remember the track but he's trying to cheer shaun up after being dumped and it comes on the juke box.  'Who the ****s put this on?' Shaun weeping, 'Its on random!'
 Share this content via...
carcrash   11 #4 Posted January 20, 2005 Band of gold by Freda Payne has got to be one of the saddest songs every written.  Now that you're gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left of the dream I hold Is a band of gold And the memories of what love could be If you are still here with me  You took me from the shelter of a mother I had never known Who loved many others We kissed after taking vows But that night on our honeymoon We stayed in separate rooms  I wait in the darkness of my lonely room Filled with sadness, filled with gloom Hoping soon that you'll walk Back through that door And love me like you tried before  Since you've been gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left of the dream I hold Is a band of gold And the dream of what love could be If you are still here with me  Ooh, don't you know that I wait in the darkness of my lonely room Filled with sadness, filled with gloom Hoping soon that you'll walk Back through that door And love me like you tried before  Since you've been gone All that's left is a band of gold All that's left of the dream I hold Is a band of gold And the dream of what love could be If you are still here with me  So from what I can gather this motherless lass has got herself hitched to a bloke who cannot get on up like a sex machine and he may even bat for the other team whilst questioning wether her mother might have plyed her trade as a woman of the night, sat waiting and hoping that it may turn out ok in the end. A fantastic pop song and one that I love dearly.   I wonder who's kissing her now, I wonder who's teaching her how, I wonder who's looking into her eyes, breathing sighs, telling lies. I wonder who's buying the wine for lips that I used to call mine. I wonder if she ever tells him of me, I wonder who's kissing her now. The godlike genius of Ray Charles   When we two parted In silence and tears, Half broken-hearted To sever for years, Pale grew thy cheek and cold, Colder thy kiss; Truly that hour foretold Sorrow to this.  The dew of the morning Sunk chill on my brow-- It felt like the warning Of what I feel now. Thy vows are all broken, And light is thy fame: I hear thy name spoken, And share in its shame.  They name thee before me, A knell to mine ear; A shudder comes o'er me-- Why wert thou so dear? They know not I knew thee, Who knew thee too well: Lond, long shall I rue thee, Too deeply to tell.  I secret we met-- I silence I grieve, That thy heart could forget, Thy spirit deceive. If I should meet thee After long years, How should I greet thee? With silence and tears. Lord Byron
 Share this content via...

Sierra   22 #6 Posted January 20, 2005 carcrash,  I love that song. Freda Payne is still going strong, and she looks fabulous!  http://www.delafont.com/music_acts/freda-payne.htm  For some reason "Coat of many Colors" by Dolly Parton made me cry when I was a kid. It's a true story. She grew up very poor in Tennessee, and her mother literally sewed her a coat out of rags because they had no money to buy one. She was thrilled to get so much of her mother's attention, as she had many siblings.  But when she wore proudly wore the coat to school, the other kids laughed at her. Yeah, kids are horrid to each other.  http://www.lyricsfreak.com/d/dolly-parton/41950.html  Ahhh, lovely poem by Byron!  Sierra
 Share this content via...

Siân   10 #8 Posted January 20, 2005 I know it's supposed to be uplifting & positive but "Days" by the Kinks (although I prefer Kirsty MacColl's version) gets me every time.  "She Goes On" by Crowded House & Forever Autumn can have the same effect too - although none of these songs made a lump appear in my throat in my teens so I guess I must have gotten soppier in my old age.  I have to confess that sometimes the oddest of songs brings a lump to my throat. I wonder how many other people have experienced that lump in the throat feeling after hearing that song "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" (I have this under control now - honestly!) Ousetunes   10 #9 Posted January 20, 2005 Last night, after a few Shandys, I played my wife the songs I want playing at my funeral. You're not likely to know them but as I'm carried in, courtesy of John Fairest, I want George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. When everyone is looking forward to getting the drinks in at the wake, I want Ase's Death from Peer Gynt Suite by Edvard Greig. This latter choice is frankly, a musical equivalent of *death*.  But, it is also staggeringly beautiful. My wife told me to turn it off, so I had to put the Three Degrees CD on instead. Lickable   10 #11 Posted January 20, 2005 Sad Eye - Pretty Things  Well if you ever baby, Feel like changing your mind, Don't think twice just take it easy, Anything you do will please me. Just as long as you see me.  And if you ever baby, Feel like starting again, All you gotta do is phone me, There is nothing you need show me. Just as long as you know me.  Well I knocked on every door, Looked on every sea and shore. Just to find that you had left me.  You were a special one, Like the setting of the sun, Now it's too late to help me.  It has such a Sad tune too, but its a brilliant song.
