Jon Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 We have four dogs and we are giving them a main meal at dinner time and then something later on at night and treats inbetween. Is that too much or too little, as they always seem hungry.
Strix Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 they are dogs - they'll eat themselves sick if the vet says their weight is okay, they're okay

Mine get their allowance spread over the day so that they get fed 3 times a day and I feed them after they have been for a walk.
fyy123 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 My dog usually has the same my cats, 4 small meals throughout the day
Lotti Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 If it's working for you - fine. I've always struggled keeping weight on Takara so don't worry about how much over her daily allowance she gets fed (although she's started putting it on now so will have to keep an eye on her) Both of my dogs are fine on two meals a day (RDA of kibble spread between two meals) plus treats (they work for the treats so pretty much burn them off as they get them and only get tidgy tiny bits!) but with most dogs you should take the treats out of the daily allowance otherwise they are likely to get a bit 'porky' It is advised to spread the allowance between at least two meals, I believe because they are not really 'designed' to eat all their food in one go but if you're dogs are happy on what they're on there's no problem. About them always being hungry - are they crying for food that's not there or just begging? If they're crying for food then maybe try splitting their meals one in the morning and one in the evening instead of all the kibble/tinned meat in one go - they won't be as hungry after each one even though they've only had half of the normal amount but they won't get as hungry later on because they'll have eaten only a few hours ago. When you think about it - 24 hours is a long time to go between meals!
pet-walkiz Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Mine get cornflakes or weetabix for breakfast with fresh milk or scrambled egg with toast.. The main meal is at 6pm ish fresh meat mixed with complete meal. The bigger dog is left to sleep then to prevent bloat. They recieve treats during the day if they are earned. plus denture stix every other day.
willman Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 my vet recently recommended twice per day for my 3 dogs. 50% a.m and 50% pm, 12 hours apart in fact (but that is due to insulin injections for one of them). they used to be fed 3 times.
xxhunniixx Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 mine get biscuits down all day and 1 can of meat each at 4pm this suits them but i suppose it depends on the dog
pinklady Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 mine have 2 meals a day, bakers light in the morning then pedagree chum at tea time
Mandie Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 My dog doesn't even manage to eat one meal a day! We put food down in the morning and it's still there at night time, most the time I feel sorry for her so give her some human food, as otherwise I can't sleep at night thinking she's starving! She used to be really greedy and eat lots, yet now it's like she hates food?
