Tightest shop in sheffield???

I was a shop manager for 30 years and during that time our owners forced us,at times ,to sell the plastic bags. They never have loved giving bags away. They'll be glad to get on this bandwagon. They can still give a paper bag,or a carrier bag, as they used to-----but bet they won't. I read on Teletex yesterday of a person who put some documents in a plastic bag and stowed them away on top of his wardrobe. Four years later the bag disintegrated into dust in his hand when he tried to pick it up. That didn't take thousands of years as we are being conned into believing. If anything changes suddenly, always consider the financial aspect first. The root is usually there.

thats a weird story, not sure i believe it as ive had some carrier bags for at least 10 years and they still look the same.....

I'd just buy the bags at 5p rather than take some with me on my way out. I don't have a problem with paying at all, just think it's all gone a but environment mad!

yes i agree if i was at the local supermarket and then i would pay the 5p for the bags.. just knowing that it might one day help towards planting a tree or helping the needy no probs with that.. but if you knew my shop keeper and you knew they was in it solely for lining their pockets then you would begrudge paying the money..

I'm not bothered were the money goes to be honest. Were talking pence so when you pay you hardly notice it. If it was a £1 I'd think twice

I think it's about time it became mandatory for all shops to charge for carrier bags. It would bring this country in line with the rest of Europe, for example The Netherlands provide bags in a dispenser on the way into the shop. If you haven't brought your own, you pay for the privilege of using new ones. People are more likely to re-use the stronger bags and/or use fabric, string or other types of sturdy shopping bags instead, if they are charged for the 'disposable' ones. ALDI (being a German company) already charge 3p for every carrier bag you use. Their bags are good quality and I have only ever bought two or three and continue to use them over and over again. There's too much plastic floating about in rivers and canals and blown up into trees and hedges - just because of people's carelessness. I think it's a good idea.

Places like netto have always charged and I have paid but I never re-use them, not because I'm a snob just because well basically I suppose I can't be bothered. I just always get new ones, free or paid for. I have even bought a bag for life at tesco as there stronger but I have never re-used it.

Its yet another money-making scam from all shops

Do you think shops get carrier bags for free or do you think they buy them?

The whole concept of shop keeping is to make money

Tightest shop? Easy, Game! Last year I bought Guitar Hero 2 on Xbox 360 from HMV, paid £70 for it based on the hype, couldn't get on with it, played it about 3 times and traded it in at Game, you know how much trade in I got on it?! £38!! And I'm like, WTF?! I paid nearly DOUBLE that for it! :loopy:
