geckoqueen Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I have been exploring ways of being able to see more of my leos, for those that don't know they're nocturnal. They're in a 'fish tank' so we've decided to cover three sides. I went to Wilkinsons and got some pretty sticky back plastic for the back but I wanted to do something special for the side so I bought sticky back cork board. They love it! I've already had them scaling all the way up to the top. I recomend it to anyone who has leos. Only problem is I tried to make it 3D by sticking cork or cork, that didn't work, but they don't seem to mind. I've been very Lawrence Lywellin Bowen tonight... they're on a mix of normal and black sand now too (to match the back drop). I love being creative with my vivs.
carpetviper Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 depending on the size of your tank you could stick a nice big flat piece of bark as a backing it can easily be trimmed to size with a bread knife as it is usually soft.

I had thought of that but they don't seem to mind climbing it flat. I'd previously tried something similar using one large peice of cork bark but because it wasn't perfectly flat the crickets (and occasionally even the geckos) got behind it.
teresatheory Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 wow your vivarium sounds brilliant! i have 2 leopard geckos and i recently got them one of these repti hammocks : http://http://www.pets-warehouse.com/pic-s/SZMSP20.jpg i fixed it into one corner of their viv and didn't really expect to see much interest, but they absolutely love it! it gives them a second level to climb up onto in the viv and they can keep an eye on everything down below. would definitely recommend one!
carpetviper Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Im in the process of building my 6X6X2 multistack vivarium it will consist of 6 3X2X2 vivs but I have made it so that I can make the bottom 4 vivs into two 6X2X2 vivs And the bit that drives me insane is the decorations I never feel I am that good at it but most people say they look good I think they are just being nice.

Suppose the main thing is that the critters are happy and you know they won't say it to be nice Typically they're all in hiding - three in the damp box (they seem to insist of freezing their tails off) and two under the plant pot. Most of the climbing frames/hides are from the house and garden - bits of wood, up turned plant pots with a side hole and an ice cream tub damp box.
