What to do if a bank messes you about

If you have a substantial amount of money that needs investing wisely then you want to know that the banks you use are reliable...admittedly mistakes are made but when you have a few thousand in a current account gaining no interest and the bank just leave it there and send you a letter a week later...then thats rubbish service.
