wondertec Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 My little girl has cystitis(sp?) , took her to the vets friday as i noticed blood in her urine and she generally had the same symptoms we get when we have it, visiting the loo alot for a tiny wee!! She's had an antibiotic jab and a painkiller, water is down and i'm holding back on the dried catfood til she's well again. Anyhting else i can do? I feel so sorry for her, in the tray all the time!
*Peaches* Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Give her some cranberry juice, its a natural anti oxidant and should help clear it up
medusa Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 If you would like her still to have dried food then most of the decent quality dried foods are checked to make sure that they don't cause cystitis and Wellbeloved food contains cranberry extract to help the kidneys and bladder out a bit. From a female point of view I can empathise enormously with how she feels- my old lass Merlin had FLUTD for the whole of her life and was on prescription food from when she was about 6 months old for over 15 years. Apart from giving her lots of love and possibly offering her a hot water bottle to snuggle up to if she's feeling a bit miserable and shivery there is little you can do to make her feel any better- sorry.
medusa Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 Give her some cranberry juice, its a natural anti oxidant and should help clear it up Lovely idea, but have you ever tried making a cat drink cranberry juice?
Lotti Posted March 2, 2008 Posted March 2, 2008 I'd like to try and get my cats to drink cranberry juice!! haha! Yeah right! The dogs wouldn't be a problem at all but I'd be very surprised if the cats had anything to do with it. I'm pretty sure you can get cranberry supplements which may work, or as medusa says - food with cranberry extract. I've also recently seen water with cranberry in - it was advertising the reason for adding the cranberry so it's not just flavouring. She may be more inclined to drink that but I don't know how much it tastes of cranberry as I can't have them so didn't buy it!
Mandie Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 Kizzy had that too on saturday, but luckily it only seemed to last a day? I think she was making it seem like it lasted longer though, as I was doing everything for her, bringing her water right up to her mouth for her to drink it and carrying her out to the garden all the time! And she was well enough to go to morrisons to get me a mothers day pressie, so I think she's okay now. I thought the same about cranberry juice though, but wasn't sure if it would harm her! Hope you manage to help your cat. Kizzy kept crying whilst she was weeing, and it made me cry too as it was so horrible to watch. I didn't know what it was at first, so rang the emergancy vet line, and a nice bloke told me not to worry and it sounds like a bladder infection, he told me to make sure she drank lots, and if it gets worse to ring him back. (I thought he'd yell at me for ringing the emergancy vet line when it wasn't really an emergancy, I was just really worried!)
Sal22 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I'v seen cat treats with cranberry extract in them. I think it was in pets @ home.
wondertec Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 Well, good news is the cystitis seems to have cleared up, regular tray useage, normal colour wee, no blood, but now.................... She has a cold! Runny eyes, snotty nose, sneezing, poor little mite. She has a very weak immune system by the way and get like this when she gets rundown... has all manner of tests at vets and nothing has come back to say what's wrong with her, she's has feline aids tests and doesn't have cat flu. Please send her hugs.....
