Minimo Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Heard on the news that Windsor is to remove double yellow lines so that motorists will be able to park freely. What are the chances of Sheffield following suit?
Heyesey Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 An extra 100 parking spaces in Sheffield would be barely noticeable. How many tens of thousands of them are there already?
scarby Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 An extra 100 parking spaces in Sheffield would be barely noticeable. How many tens of thousands of them are there already? If all the Double Yellow Lines were removed, then there'd be a lot more than 100. I figure it will probably double the amount we already have, making parking in town much easier - but it won't happen anyway.
andco Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Unfortunately I think you're right - it's far too innovative and forward thinking for the likes of our dearly beloved leaders who seem only able to stifle the City Centre.
Planner1 Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Heard on the news that Windsor is to remove double yellow lines so that motorists will be able to park freely. What are the chances of Sheffield following suit? If you read the Windsor Council report: http://www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/news_29807_yellow_line_review.htm you'll see that what they are doing is having a review of the parking arrangements in their town centre. They are looking at shortening some of the double yellow lines at junctions and converting some double yellows to singles to allow evening parking. Sounds like they hven't reviewed them since the 1980's so it's not an unreasonable thing to do. The reason they are doing this is that they are converting the majority their on street parking bays to RESIDENTS ONLY at evenings and weekends, so they need somewhere for visitors to park!

I figure it will probably double the amount we already have, making parking in town much easier - but it won't happen anyway. It might allow some extra parking, but what about the problems it would cause. Double yellows are used where it is unsafe to park, ie at junctions or where the road is too narrow etc.
