lazyherbert Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 So the local Iraq veterans returned to a very, very low key parade & medal ceremony. Why,are we ashamed of them. I for one am proud of them & think they should have been afforded some coverage on the radio or T.V.,or did I miss it?Or did the anti-war brigade win again?
Joanl Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 I saw a brief mention of it on Sky news at some point, well I heard the reporter say his name, from Sheffield and turned round to just see the men marching...there were a few people watching but nothing more than the normal shoppers I suspect. M&S was in the background so, wherever that is these days. I was waiting for some mention of it on here to be honest but didn't see anything...shame really...they deserve better.
beansforyou Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Well It was on the news yesterday, Personally i'm not really interested, they wanted to be employed by the forces, spent months/years being paid to train to do their job, then went and did it for a while. Maybe if it had been conscription based then i'd feel differently.
ukjazzer Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Why are the lives of young British working class men and women being sacrificed to support the American war machine and the profits Americian Oil Corporations ? This dreadful war is costing this company millions of pounds. It's time we sorted our our own country ! We never learn !
The_DADDY (2) Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Well It was on the news yesterday, Personally i'm not really interested, they wanted to be employed by the forces, spent months/years being paid to train to do their job, then went and did it for a while. It's the lads that go willingly, that save the ones that would be dragged kicking and screaming off to do it.!
ukjazzer Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 Why should people be conscripted and forced to fight wars ? 30 years ago the taliban , when they were fighting the russians, were trained and supported by the UK and the Yanks. I honestly would not have no problems fighting to save this country if our shores were threatend. As in the case of the second world war. Why should our youngsters be involved in fighting this filthy war ? We ain't ever gonna win. No way ! If you know your history then you would know the UK are responsible for a lot of the problems in region the first place !
Joanl Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 The rights and wrongs of the situation were never mentioned in the original post....just the lack of respect for the ones coming home. Our lads have been involved in other peoples wars over the years since the 2nd world war...I know....I was married to a Royal Marine.
iamthemoon Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 i only saw this after the event. i would have loved to go down and cheer them on and i wish the local newspaper/tv news would have told us about it the day before. i am sure many more would have been there to welcome the boys and girls back. maybethe tree hugging anti-war brigade won a small art of it by not having the march advertised
catzeyesF Posted March 1, 2008 Posted March 1, 2008 They went to a war that wasnt neccesary, what do people want us to do now that they have returned, tap them on the shoulder and say 'well done for not dying'. I dont think many of them agree with the war. But for the families im sure its nice to have them back safe and sound and that is a good thing. Too many people have died for nothing.
