NEKRO138 Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I'm going to be wanting to run a phone line, sky television and broadband in a house I'm moving into. I would like the sports channels if possible but it's not essential. The 4OD thing looks pretty good as well. Anyone know if there's any good deals on?
Weathergirl Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I have the sky deal, phoneline, BB and TV for £26. You have to add the sports channels extra. You pay more for more channels with the package.

If you didn't know, Sky are actually losing a lot of money in comparison to 5 years ago. Many people don't need Sky TV for example with the arrival of Digital TV. This is a good thing though as Sky are now pretty much open to a lot of offers that they wouldn't have usually done. A friend of mine had Sky TV for a number of years and when they contacted him asking if he wanted to renew his contract he said "no". Sky then found out it was because he didn't have the money to continue paying £40 a month and so they offered him the exact same package he had for £15 instead! Not satisfied with this, my friend still said this wasn't good enough and they offered him further discounts. At the moment he now pays £7 a month for a phone line, internet and TV with all the channels. This is just a bit of advice to say that when it comes to signing up, don't be afraid to ask for big discounts as they need all the custom they can get and will most likely agree to it. If at first you don't get the discount, fulfill your contract and then ask for discounts when it comes to renewing your contract after! -Michael
Rich Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 I wouldn't personally touch Sky Broadband with a digitally enhanced bargepole, especially not the free package. My Dad's on it up in Stannington, and when it works, the connection is good, if a little slow (can't get above 512k in Stannington due to pants exchange at Wadsley), but the supplied router's a piece of crap! Times out all the time, has to be reset, and takes 10 minutes or more to come back online!
Alex C. Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Actually, there are very few discounts available to new customers at the moment - you can usually get a discount for taking out Multiroom or HD but both those cost extra. TV - £16 for a 1 mix package (or £21 for all non-premium channels) Sports Channels - £17/month extra Phone - BT line rental is £11 per month, Sky is £10.50 (I think!) Broadband: 2mb free, 8mb £5/month or 16mb £10/month (all 'Up to' speeds) So the minimum you'd pay for a package is £15+£10.50+£0 = £25.50. Hope this helps

Theres a lot of advice for him to follow on this forum - theres a lot of things that can be done, such as removing the ringwire or disabling uPnP on the router that can make a big difference edit: But I agree that its rubbish, just for different reasons - it's very much a when it works, it works, when it goes wrong, you'll be waiting 6 months to get the internet switched back on (and I've personally seen it happen many times)
