Jabberwocky Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 We went for a walk to the docs this morning to give my one year old her innoculations- Parvo or Distemper or something, I cant remember now, but on the way to the docs I noticed flattened beercans at regular intervals along our little walk. Now, Ive noticed these cans before, there always seems to be a flattened can, and there seems to be more of them since the recycling thing came in. Even in the posh areas we walked through, there were these flat cans. Do the recyclers throw a can out of their truck every so often so they can follow the trail around their route each week? Is there a tribe of alcoholic can-flatteners marking their territory? I remember in the 90s, an old bloke on Parson cross who used to collect old cans in a bin bag to sell so he could buy fags n booze, the DSS stopped him from doing it because it turned out he was making more form collecting old cans than he was getting from them- maybe they were jealous or something, but they ordered him to either stop collecting or lose his pension. He`d make a mint these days, especially here in the wilds of Leicestershire, there are even flattened beer cans at the top of Bardon hill so these alchies must be bloody healthy to climb all that way just for a drink. Is it just here? Does your part of the world have a tribe of beer can flatteners...?
cressida Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 I was pleasantly surprised today to notice that the Mall in Sale was completely litter free, there were numerous litter bins everywhere, metal but quite narrow and nearly all were full - how refreshing, I seldom see any cans in the streets where I live (cue for a song) they used to be collected and given to schools for some purpose or other, if think this has stopped, perhaps the schools should ask for them again, I think they have to be aluminium not tin.
Don_Kiddick Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Nah it's the same in Rovvrem when the binnmen or the recyclers have been. There's always litter blowing around on our street after their departure. AND - even more irritating - the bins are left so higgledy-piggledy it's like a slalom run trying to get passed them, God knows how the elderly & infirm cope. Ironically, if you leave your bin out in that postition they won't empty it!
skippy Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 God knows how the elderly & infirm cope. We kick them away when we walk around shuffling our feet.
