I use mine to drive to the station to come to work, for food shopping, for the 2 and half hour drive home to my mums that would take about 5 hours by train and cost twice as much, to go to places like IKEA, Meadowhall ( I dont live in sheffield)

There should be an option "I love driving"

Indeed. Some people don't get that some of us actually enjoy it :)

I walk to work, in preference, but I need my car for other journeys, mainly because:

* I have difficulty imparting my enthusiasm for walking on others in my household

* I am unable to carry cookers, fridges and 3-piece suites very far without one

* I cannot achieve 70mph, even with Nike trainers!

. I haven't noticed a vast increase in the number of Toyota Prius on the road with their free tax, other than in London but that's to avoid congestion charge of £8 a day, a more substantial amount.

that's because it is such an ugly car. I'd consider something greener but i dont want an ugly car.

I use my car beacuse i work shifts and go to see and look after my kids. None of this can i do without my car unless i spend 3-4 hours a day on public transport. So as sadi by another poster, i pay good money for the car, pay tax and insurance so maight as well pay for the astronomical priced fuel. I couldn't live without my car

All interesting, so how many people dare acknowledge using their cars for short journeys due to weather or can't be bothered to walk?

Depends what you call a short journey, - our nearest bus stop is almost two miles away and from the bus stop - home is a climb of 900ft, usually into the teeth of a howling south-westerly gale. :P

I'm going to use mine now for a journey of about 1.5 miles.

If I took the bus I'd need to go into town and back out, costing £3.00 each and taking upwards of an hour, and since I'm supposed to be teaching in 18 minutes that's not going to work.

Could also use the tram, but that would cost me £2.70 for a dayrider and leave me with a total of about 15 mins walk each way plus the 10 minute ride time.

Most of the time public transport just can't compare to private.

Or you could walk? 1.5 miles would take about 15-20 minutes so if you get off the computer 5 minutes earlier you could make it :)

Unless, of course, you have lots of kit to carry...

Dayriders are now £3 :|

If I was to use public transport to get to work I would have to get a bus/tram into town and then back out again and it would take hours to get to work. Also in the dark nights I feel much safer in my car.
